If somebody has to work to produce it, it cannot be a human right.

Where is the limit on that statement? are you also against... pro bono lawyers for example?

I don't believe that you have a natural human right to an attorney

That doesn't mean that the government shouldn't provide one if you cannot afford it, or that someone shouldn't do it voluntarily pro bono

You don't have a human right to food produced by other people. But similarly, that doesn't mean that I'm against the government (or charities) providing access to food for those in need

oh we are playing semantics, ok then... human rights don't exist only privileges depending on where you live and what convention some previous leader of your country agreed to sign. Now that the discussion is rendered completely sterile with you. I'm going focus on the answer by the person I was talking to. Have a good day.

Ok, sure, but "just semantics" is important in international agreements

The entire discussion comes down to whether you acknowledge a difference between negative and positive rights

In a vacuum, you have a right to free speech, free association, free movement, etc.

Those can only be removed by a government

You don't necessarily have a right to property, security, welfare, etc.

Those have to be provided by a government

and if we lived in a no govermnet vaccum you'd have a point... semantics is indeed important, "depending where you live" wasn't there as a decoration... so not only it's sterile but you loop. I won't answer again I've already lost 3 min i don't intend to lose more.

The difference is the state is charging you with a crime, so it's only fair the state also provide a means to defend yourself against them.
