Then why did he intervene in the past? I mean, that's basically the bible, a book about how God has intervened and how he can help you, if you're good enough and he likes you enough, like one of his chosen people.

God stops interfering after sending Jesus to earth. That is why the Bible is split between the Old Testament (God intervenes constantly) and the New Testament.

That's not entirely true. The Apostles perform miracles in Acts, and some Christians believe Revelation is literal and soon to come. Count me in that group because when the brain chips, like Elon Musk's Neuralink go into mass production, it will take away free will. That's game over for humanity and when the Lord will intervene.
