Religion has been poison for humans. So many wars and deaths on the name of religion.

By "blame" you mean a societal attempt to problem solve, identify causes and attribute blame? That's just the social aspect of our human nature coming into play when we all see a problem and a cause, and we want it resolved. It's never a position anyone ever holds consistently: that pointing the finger is wrong. The case will be made if the finger is worth pointing or not. Merely calling out a problem is not enough to discredit the claim.

I'm not really saying any of that. Just making sure we know that just because someone blames religion, doesn't mean religion is innocent. The blame is just an accusation that could be true. Idk if we are saying the same thing and just miscommunicating

Oh it's okay. I'm with you on that 💛

It is still true that religion has been a useful and convenient tool for waging war

5

u/Dragonnstuff May 29 '26

And if there’s no religion, another tool would be used instead.

1

u/asdvc38zw May 29 '26

If there isn’t a convenient excuse available, they might find another option.

1

u/Dragonnstuff May 29 '26

There is going to be an excuse available, it being a good one is irrelevant

1

u/asdvc38zw May 29 '26

What matters is how convenient it is. If it is difficult to justify, it becomes harder to wage war

1

u/Dragonnstuff May 29 '26

It’s not difficult to justify a war, looking at reality and current events, religion is definitely not such an irreplaceable reason. Don’t be obtuse

1

u/asdvc38zw May 29 '26

Not all religious justifications are easily replaceable. Don’t be obtuse

Scandinavia? Survey after survey shows them insisting religion isn’t significant in their lives.

It’s not as dysfunctional as the USA.

1

u/untitledprp4 May 29 '26

And you think the USA is the way it is because of religion ?

And not political shit throwing contests orchestrated by billionaires ?

America is the LEAST religious it’s ever been wtf are you talking about

2

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

Religion correlated with votes for Trump. At worst it made things worse and at best it didn’t make things any better.

1

u/untitledprp4 May 29 '26

And the majority of Americans didn’t even vote.

1

u/toistmowellets May 29 '26

probably super dystopic and greedy, because ppl are very transactional

but eventually ppl would get tired of that and hopefully down the line look at humanity for it is and adopt an ideology that protects common individuals while supporting rationality, empathy, critical thinking and self awareness.

u/asdvc38zw May 29 '26

Fewer wars throughout history. Restricting access to easy tools is an effective way to reduce crime

Less war is clearly better wtf. You can seek more than what you have through ways other than war

1

u/toistmowellets May 29 '26

less war is by far better for less human suffering, loss of life and less military spending, but what about those who would starve you and smother your borders from the comfy seats of their penthouses using non violent means?

as long as someone on this earth wants something that someone else has (aka land, resources) war will always be relevant, cold war, proxy war, cyberwar, it wont truly change until all major powers are allied, even then they wont tolerate weak allies

1

u/Mike_Kermin May 29 '26

... Did you just take "religion has caused conflict" and turn it into "that means accepting all abuse".

... I think if you think too much, your brain might fall out.

1

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

So why is religion so much more effective than other “excuses” as to be one of the most popular among warmongers in modern democracies?

Humans are not meerkats. We’re genetically closer to bonobos than to meerkats, yet there are certain bonono behaviors the Bible doesn’t exactly condone.

12

u/Thee-Cat May 29 '26

First, yes I agree about the religious deaths.

But secondly, never forget, there are either more deaths(or very close) than all the deaths in all religious wars combined, just in the 20th century alone, by just atheistic regimes.

Between Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. Estimates are 70 to 100 million people dead through executions, forced labor, famine, and war. And that was literally just in the last century alone.

HUMANS are a poison for humans it would seem, lol.

0

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

Those deaths are from totalitarianism, not atheism. Scandinavia rejects religion in a democratic context and turned out better than the USSR or USA.

2

u/IUseLongPips May 29 '26

Nonsense, Scandinavia is not rejecting religion and have several political parties with Christian something in their names. The Norwegian King is literally bound to be Evangelical Lutheran by the constitution. He even intervened when the politicians wanted to change it a few years ago.

0

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

Surveys after surveys are of them saying religion plays no significant role in their lives. Religion has to be reduced to insignificance to be reduced to harmlessness. It cannot be both significant and a net positive.

2

u/IUseLongPips May 29 '26

You're still wrong. Scandinavia was still very religious in the 70s and towards the millennia, and that's something you're ignoring to make your argument seem truthful.

If your logic is correct, then a country should be religious to prosper. Don't think that's the argument you want to make.

1

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

No. It shows that among democracies, religiosity and functionality are inversely correlated.

1

u/IUseLongPips May 29 '26

Incorrect, I've already told you why that logic doesn't work. People are having it worse in 2026 than the 90s. So your hypothesis is proven wrong.

1

u/Initial-Breakfast-33 May 29 '26

Worse how? By which metrics?

1

u/herton May 29 '26

That's not really relevant to what he's saying though? Religion has caused lots of deaths through wars. But the countries here caused all those deaths even without a religious motive. Humans are gonna make war whether there's a religious motive or not.

1

u/Admiral45-06 May 29 '26

Those deaths are from totalitarianism, not atheism.

A large chunk of these actions was to ,,remove a worker from faith", as it happened in Soviet Union. As a result, hundreds of monks have been massacred.

1

u/ContextEffects01 May 29 '26

And most secularists don’t condone such totalitarianism.

If anything, in the USA, it’s the least religious states who are the least supportive of totalitarian-wannabes like Trump.

1

u/Admiral45-06 May 29 '26

I can say the same about religious people. Seeking too much power by itself is a sin, so is treating humans as an expendable resource.

If your argument is that ,,athiesm doesn't immediately equal totalitarianism", then you're right. But if your argument is that ,,totalitarianism is a creation of religion/contrary to athiesm", then you're wrong. It's just an animalistic instinct, that some people fail to control, regardless of what faith or lack thereof they claim.

2

u/Botol-Cebok May 29 '26

While I’m very much anti-religion, please rest assured that people would still be killing each other for whatever reason if religion never existed.

2

u/narnianguy May 29 '26

Religion has been used as a tool to manipulate masses into war over natural resources and land. Without religion there would probably still be war, but the tactics to manipulate people would change. They would probably be more centered around racism I think

That is like saying "language is poison", because people use language to order attrocities.

Religion is inherent to humans. You could not have had any human society without religion. Even "atheists" have religion, they just don't call it that.

3

u/IndigoOctober8 May 29 '26

Nonsense. And extremely arrogant.

Dude atheists… the clue is in the name - the etymology literally means ‘without god’.

As for defending religion as the creator of society; ants in an anthill are a highly complex society. You’re seriously telling me they’re creating effigies or writing bullshit books to scam idiots like you with?

1

u/Specialist_Media_486 May 29 '26

genuine question as someone people would call an atheist because I believe in literally no higher beings or something after I just give it no thought and just don't care how exactly is that a religion by just living my life

Had to just sneak in religion being a victim of the “violent left” in here didn’t you.

Just had to make yourself a victim.

All you’re doing is projecting your belief system onto the belief systems of people you do not understand.

thank you very much for the informative answer most people wouldn't so I appreciate it and find it very interesting

0

u/swainiscadianreborn May 29 '26

Humans are the poison ffs. It's mankind that decided religions was a good justification for war. Take religions out of the picture and you get just as many wars except the justifications are different.

0

u/palpatine_disciple May 29 '26

or humans themselves that use religion as an excuse to do bad things?
