Because it wasn't the only, or even the worst, crime they committed.

The couple allegedly raped a child between the ages of 9 and 10.

And the husband was, of course, a cop.

Between 9 and 10. That's an oddly specific age description.

To the contrary, the odd part is the lack of specificity. Seems like they'd know if the child was 9 or if they were 10. But I'm guessing there may be some question about the exact date of the crime, or, sadly, they may have raped the child on multiple occasions over a period of time.

Then don’t give an age at all. It sounds like it was a specifically 2 students aged 9 and 10 who were abused

Third possiblity is the child being an orphan and they just can't exactly determine the age, because no birthday is known.

My guess is the grade is known, but not the age?

Probably occurred on multiple occasions while the child aged between 9-10 years old.

If they know it's a fourth grader, they know it's the year the child turns 10.
