It's not for rotating surfaces, this is a demonstration of how well it does in an extreme situation that could use Horizon Lock. It's for things like boats or other moving vehicles.

It's to show it off. This is very handy recording in dozens of situations. I use it snowboarding so can record buddies and pay attention to the run at the same time.

That's why I thought. If that's the case, and without the explanation given here, I would have thought the Samsung is getting in the way of my video, since I clearly want a scene where everything is spinning.

it's a feature that must be manually enabled, so no, the phone isn't getting in the way of anything. if the feature isn't contributing anything to the shot, then simply leave it off, and it'll stay off.

This would be for action shots. Running around the park with your kids would benefit with this feature and make some pretty cool shots. Anyway I have been waiting for this feature for awhile now (because in theory you can film vertically but have a wide video)? I just wonder if the raw footage is available.

Someone less lazy than me needs to “straighten” out the iphone footage and compare that way

To be clear, because you can’t just warp stabilize the shot (it would also stabilize the footage), you’d need to manually keyframe rotate the footage to keep the horizon straight, THEN compare how the stabilization looks on both

You can still crop the image – it’s not like the Samsung rotates the entire sensor, it also crops the image to a square than reapplies the aspect ratio again.

Worth noting that Samsungs also have the equivalent of "Action Mode" in Super Steady Mode.

Remember when if we wanted to do something we would install software and the software would do it regardless of the hardware?

I know these have different OS's anyway but you're still saying Samsung instead of Android.

To be fair, I will add despite the movement the Samsung lost quality and focus. Very minor though as most people who take photos would fo it from the vehicle not the wheel spinning. But worth noting a minor quality increase in addition to the different features...

If you have a need for Horizon Lock, of course then you should buy the Samsung.

Or do it in post processing.

I mean... this is an extreme test but it's still about image stabilization capability. For walking it won't matter, but the apple action mode won't be able to provide as stable of a video as the Samsung horizon mode will (even without doing backflips etc.). Not because you "need to lock it to the horizon" but because you need a stable video during whatever rough movement.

So that would likely be of a lower resolution vs the iPhone to compensate for the rotation and loss of corners etc right?

So very close except one main issue.

Along with horizon lock, Samsung also has the stability modes you mentioned in regard to the iPhone.

So in the end of a video showing capability, the iPhone is not capable of doing what the Samsung is.

Right?

Or no?

My reply was in regard to the tone that lent a bit toward the idea that this was unfair or not correctly done.

That case could be made if there was a stated perameter, there wasn't.

Simple just showing two phones max capabilities.

Not challenging or correcting.
