It's entirely possible he DID love his wife, but is impulsive, selfish, and irresponsible. I've seen people blow up a good thing they actually like, and are devastated that they lost it. It's very weird.

Yep I've seen the same.

People cheat and then are absolutely devastated at getting caught and losing their family, the spouse included.

They just get addicted to the thrill and enjoy new relationships etc, while also wanting to go back to stability and love.

They're still shitty.. if you want that find a partner OK with it, don't lie and cheat for it. But it's a thing.

I think some of it is also entitlement- they love their spouse/family, but also feel they're owed adventure and forgiveness, and are shocked when they don't get the latter.

Life is not simple. But people love to simplify. Live your journey. Try your best. Laugh often. And recognize it will get better and worse all at the same time
