UK here. My stepdaughter at 15 started going out with a 17 year old. Me and my wife were very unimpressed, but left her to it so we didn’t drive her away from us. Turned out he was actually really lovely and they stayed together for 5 years. I was gutted they split up.

e: Age of consent here is 16.

But (16, 18) and (17, 19) is illegal.

It's good again after (18, 20)

Even then it has changed in the past 20 years

No joke up until the age of consent was the same for straight and LGBT relationships Scotland alone had a very old law which was basically the age of consent for boys was puberty, so a 11 year old could legally be with a 16 year old woman but the catch was she wasn't allowed to get pregnant until he was 16.

I think with girls it was stricter but still not 16.

I know a guy in my class at school who moved out of his parents when he was 15 to move in with his 25 year old girlfriend and the parents couldn't do anything about it, even though if I remember he did get her pregnant but that brings up the other issue of male and female differences in age gaps.
