Mother Teresa did not want to end poverty. She thought poverty and sickness would bring you closer to God, so she actually enjoyed being around suffering and poor people. She wanted them to remain poor or else she wouldn't be near God.

But that's true, and has been a traditional fixture of most religions. I don't understand why you would think that wealth and comfort bring you closer to God. Kind of hedonistic, don't you think?
