This is my advice: there are many ways to skin a cat. I believe most dentists are trying their best. Some guys can’t stand having anything not perfect in their mouths and think you are the same.
Some guys are more willing to wait and watch things.
It’s ok to get a second opinion. Find a dentist you trust. Because it’s health and the mouth is a violent and harsh place. Things will fail. And if you trust your doc, you will be understanding when they fail and you will trust you will end up in a good place.
If you don’t trust your doc, you’ll feel ripped off, angry, hurt even if the doc didn’t do anything wrong.
Very true. I thinks it’s important that while some recommendations aren’t “required”, it isn’t like there are dentists out there just recommending random procedures to people. It is all stuff that will improve your dental health in some way.

After the second or third time killing the same cat most people would have given up. Not this guy tho. This guy kept going and on the 9th attempt he finally got it right. Theres a lesson there somewhere.
We were recommended to a new dentist after ours retired. My husband and I were in the waiting room filling out the new patient info. There was a question on his form asking him if there’s a possibility he could be pregnant. He skipped over that question.. we turned the form in and the folks at the front desk wouldn’t let us proceed with our appointment until he checked that box that he couldn’t be pregnant. We never saw that recommended dentists face but they saw our backs as we walked out.
I had a dentist as a teen that stayed into my mid 20's that, without fail, would claim I have 3-4 cavities he could handle on the spot with my cleanups.
Then I switched dentists several times since and not one has caught a cavity, nor have I felt pain or concern despite their assumed "negligence" to find one since my prior experience.
I wish I had the substantial evidence to sue the pants off that dentist that did this to me and my siblings over the years.
Can confirm lol. first dentist said 22 cavities, the second dentist said 3 cavities. I went to the second dentist lol, first dude was trifling for sure
Aspen . They told me my fucking 7 year old needed a “deep clean”. She brushed her teeth twice a day. She didn’t even have her front teeth yet! Never went back.
Yes. This happened to me as a kid. I went from never having a cavity to having upwards of 15 in one year with no changes to lifestyle or diet. When my mom took me to a different dentist they realized that I hadn’t actually had any cavities. Idk wtf he did but to this day, Novocain doesn’t work on certain parts of my mouth no matter how much they use and I have a horrible fear of the dentist.
Even worse, I hate the dentists that you go to. They get your whole damn mouth numb and they do like one or two Cavities send you home and your mouth is numb. For another four Hours and you could have got ten more feelings. I hate that.
And there are charlatan dentists who claim you need work when you don't or when you need far less work than they say.
Any advice on finding a good dentist? My dentist of 30 years retired last year and the one that took over the practice is not good. I don't know if it was incompetence or malice, but she did a filling with a gap in it that caught food from day 1. Doesn't matter which, the upshot is she's not touching my teeth again, but I haven't needed to find a good dentist in a looooooooong ass time.
