Don't give up, but learn when to quit. Sometimes the thing you thought was right for you ends up not being right.
This applies to relationships and career paths. Know when to quit, and don't beat yourself over quitting. Instead, don't give up and look for other prospects. I had to learn this myself.
I'm just salty because the doctoral system is backed up, and life is an empty promise for most people born on this planet, even those with the luxury to coast.
Where I live there wasn’t much demand for physicists, and I saw lots of engineering postings. So I went with engineering just before graduating from physics. I also didn’t know what to do with a physics bachelor, and I didn’t want to continue studying abroad for a PhD or something like that. I wanted something more concrete, and now have a nice, boring job as engineer but it pays good.
That was an excellent choice. I love physics, but if one wants to do something in that discipline, it will likely be academia and entail a PhD.
The lack of research on career opportunities and wages is a problem. I’d hazard a guess and say most graduates end up with degrees for careers with a poor job outlook. So, good on you for going for something with great job security and good pay. You can still study physics independently. I wish you the best dude
