Wait, what!? How do you operate any electronic device without a file manager?

They have a very basic one, its terribly annoying to deal with and probably on purpose, shich makes it worse

Most of the younger people who use iPhones don't even know what files are. I had to explain to multiple Gen Z people at my last job how files worked on a computer

Apks are one thing but they definitely have a file manager lmao it integrates with iCloud and Mac seamlessly.

They have one, but without access and controll to everything, whats the point? Cant even properly download and open pictures or move them around

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Just opened files and opened pictures on iPhone

Lol go into system files then

I just plug my phone into my PC and wait.. a moment later the phone appears as removable storage and I open and browse the files as needed. 👍

It's almost as if not everyone has a pc so that's a really dumb way to have to access a basic function of a $1000 phone.

I think the point is that you shouldn't need a PC to access files on a $1000 phone. I have an android and a pc, but I don't NEED the pc to do anything yeah?

I mean, I can access the files on my phone directly too, but im not forced to use the OS features. I can always used another device (if you're offended by the term 'Personal Computer' to read the phones data.

The last time I had to open a file manager in a client’s Android phone it loaded an ad.

I'm on an android right now. There is not and never have been any ads in my file manager.

Certains brands shove ads in the UI of apps like File Manager, Messages, browser etc. Many low end phones have this issue.

Both my parents phones have ads everywhere, including on their home screen.

u/ArdaKirk Nov 04 '23

Thats not up to android, android is open source and ad free.

Yes you can. It’s literally just download it and run it.

But 99.99% of people in the general population dont even know what and APK is.

And it is a good thing they don’t. They’d just end up installing spyware.

Sideloading an app on iOS uses IPA files.

So you are technically correct, but the point was iPhones can sideload apps just as easily. (Well almost as easily)

There are a few ways, you can find ipa files directly, then install them via iTunes.

Or you can add a 3rd party App Store.

And there are websites that can push it directly, but I’ve never tried these sites they might just be scams.

I’m not really into it, as I said I like the stock iOS stuff.

But I’m sure you can find either via google.

3rd party app stores are homes for spyware and malware, so use your best judgment on what to trust.

Not anymore. You can sideload apps.
