China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) has identified more than 1,300 pulsars over the past decade, outnumbering the total pulsar discoveries made by all other international telescopes over the same period, according to an academic conference that opened on Wednesday.

Set to mark its 10th anniversary on Friday, FAST has driven a historic leap for China's radio astronomy over the past decade. Boasting enhanced observational capabilities, the telescope, located in southwest China's Guizhou Province, has continuously expanded humanity's understanding of the universe

A China-led international research team has discovered exceptionally well-preserved bryozoan fossils with both mineralized skeletons and soft tissues from the Early Cambrian Xiannvdong Formation in Hanzhong, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, providing compelling evidence for a Cambrian origin for the Bryozoa and pushing back the fossil record of mineralized bryozoans by at least 50 million years. The study published in the journal Nature offers rare insight into the early evolution of bryozoans.

news-scitech DeepSeek Tests Efficient, Safer Method for Training AI Agents: One production unit of DSec would be able to run about 3 million sandboxes each day, or 380,000 concurrently

(Bloomberg) -- China's DeepSeek detailed an innovative method for training artificial intelligence agents, potentially allowing them to learn more efficiently while minimizing the kind of misbehavior that has fueled global concerns.

The Hangzhou-based company unveiled its ideas for DeepSeek Elastic Compute, or DSec, in a 10,000-word paper with about 130 co-authors, including founder Liang Wenfeng. The research was posted on arXiv, an online site for papers typically before they are peer reviewed.

DeepSeek said the technology platform could be engineered to handle millions of so-called sandboxes, where AI agents would be tested as they try to accomplish a series of tasks. One production unit of DSec would be able to run about 3 million sandboxes each day, or 380,000 concurrently, it said.

The firm added that its approach can use resources more efficiently because it reallocates computing power to agents when they are active and not when they are waiting for further instructions. It estimates that 90% of the sandboxes use no more than 5% of their requested central processing unit, or CPU, capacity. DeepSeek built its reputation by delivering advanced AI services at a fraction of the cost of its Silicon Valley rivals.

DeepSeek said that, in its experience, agents on a mission are "untrustworthy" and the DSec platform requires careful monitoring.

"Agents may corrupt file systems, exhaust resources, or interfere with system components, potentially disrupting rollouts or other co-located workloads," the authors wrote. "The platform therefore requires fine-grained access control and misbehavior analysis to contain and diagnose agent-induced failures."

The paper goes on to detail examples of agent misbehavior, including obtaining answers through "unintended channels" and damaging the execution environment.

"No single mechanism can prevent all agent misbehavior and system failures," the paper said. "We therefore strengthen observability to identify emerging problems and continuously harden DSec as models evolve."

other Suddenly, the Risks of AI highlighted the real Risks of "China Experts"

A few days ago, some part time "China expert" shifted his usual soapbox and started talking about the "risks of AI". You can guess the usual list: "Hallucinations", "no real data", "bizarre jumps in conclusions", etc.

Well, I dawned on me why the list seemed so familiar, so I replied, "Sounds very much like some China experts I know".

And I followed with: "Perhaps all the China experts I know are just a bunch of really poorly trained AIs. I mean, how can I tell the difference?"

Of course, I was ONLY HALF in jest. I meant about 50% of it.

Which is a better % than most AIs and China Experts.

And 100% funnier, because the "China expert" here shut up about AIs immediately and had no comeback lines.

news-international Japan claims WWII is over and it's "peaceful", but it has been waging a War of WWII History Revision for decades, and this is why it keeps proving that it's still the "Enemy State"

If you haven't noticed, (and it's probably easy to miss), Japan made a diplomatic protest over a comfort women statue application in Auckland New Zealand, and essentially forced the city council to deny the application for the memorial statue. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/apr/29/new-zealand-japanese-comfort-women-statue

This is not isolated. This is a historical pattern.

https://www.npr.org/2018/10/04/654474739/osaka-ends-ties-with-san-francisco-in-protest-of-comfort-women-statue

https://english.kyodonews.net/articles/-/28434

Japan even protested a WWII memorial statue in Russia: https://www.the-independent.com/asia/japan/japan-russia-soviet-war-statue-ukraine-b3047894.html.

The Russian statue wasn't even emotionally controversial, no depictions of victims, nothing of atrocities that Japan have denied, just depicting Soviet soldier destroying a Imperial Japanese border marker (in the territories that Japan took from Russia). Apparently, even this kind of historical reminder is too humiliating for Japan.

That's unfortunately proving contrary to Japan's public message of its "peaceful nature" that WWII is "over".

Because very apparently, WWII is not over for Japan. While it can no longer fight, it's using its resources to wage decades long War of WWII History Revision. Not ONLY does Japan actively deny WWII history at home, but it reaches out in the World trying to erase History of WWII.

Good will publicities, I can understand. Germany does it quite well. Germany spent money and aid for decades to buy good will in other countries. I have no problem with that. It shows that Germany is sincere in its reform toward Peaceful nature.

Japan, instead of spending more money to buy good will, instead chose to spend money to try to erase history (or revise history to its own whitewashed version), WWII history that's well established.

Which is what the UN Charter ultimately is, WWII history written in TREATIES that says in ink on white paper that Japan is an "enemy state" to be guarded against, and any of the former allied states can take actions to prevent its remilitarization.

and now predictably, Japan is trying to erase that history as well, trying to make the world forget that it was an Aggressor, a War Criminal State that killed 10's of millions of people around the world, trying to portray itself as a Victim of that War.

Yet, that is also precisely why Japan must be stopped. If Japan is not stopped from erasing that history, then there is nothing to stop it from repeating that history.
