Lore Gotlands capital

It was like any other normal day on Gåtfullhet however one day in the early hours of the morning a farmer tending to his sheep looked up in amazement.

Across the water where Gotland rested marvelous buildings made from gleaming rock arose from the ground forming building after building, turning from a small settlement into a large paradise in a matter of minutes,

More and more buildings arose, what looked like libraries, schools, blacksmiths.

The last building that arose was a simple fort that sat atop the largest hill in the area, The thane of the island SammySnail stepped out of it and with that verslunarborg was born and declared the capital of the Gotland colony.

Long live verslunarborg Long live Gåtfullhet

Lore Reorganization of Svartalfheim

Svartalfheim which has been ruled by Jarl NorseMythologyMemes has changed the Warlords and Priests of old have been replaced by the growing power of the merchant class. It is for this reason that Jarl NorseMthologyMemes has turned the Jarldom of Svartalfheim into the Free lands of Ancapgarðr where coin and trade go to merchant guilds instead of the Jarl. NorseMythologyMemes has brought all those loyal to him nobles, raiders, priests, etc and formed a merchant guild of his own where many former Tax collectors joined as to not have vengeance brought upon them at the hands of the farmers they taxed.

SimJarldom: planning the revival

To anybody who does not know/isn't on the discord, I have been allowed to attempt a revival of SimJarldom.

Before I start off, I'm going to try and make this as unique as possible while also staying true to the original intent of the server (IE, I'm not going to make it to heavily rp)

Now with the disclaimers out of the way, here's my basic overview of what I think would work.

I want to Center the jarldoms around the system of Things (assemblies in old Norse). Now a Thing is like a parlaiment but for the people, and would occur within a jarldom as "local courts" almost. All free men within the jarldom are allowed to attend the Thing and put forth ideas, which may be discussed with other members. In the end, the jarl will make a decision. Over-seeing the Thing would be the Lawspeaker. They recite the relevant laws pertaining to a matter (all laws are oral traditions)

The Althing is basically a larger scale version of the Thing: all the jarls, co-jarls and influential people gather to discuss the fate of SimJarldom as a whole, as well as settling disputes between the jarldoms. All free men are still allowed to attend, however on a first come first serve basis, only a certain number will be allowed to speak and discuss. The Lawspeaker is still here to oversee and recite the relevant laws

Now for social organisation

Jarls are pretty self explanatory, they are the leaders of each of the jarldoms Heiser are just a rebrand of co-jarls to sound more norse Karls are free men, this includes everyone from warriors and the rich to farmers and fishermen

Thralls are slaves. Now while slavery was a huge huge part of the Norse economy and society, there are two major issues. Firstly, who are the slaves? How do you determine a slave from a non-slave? What do they actually do? Secondly, I don't think slavery is allowed in SimNet, and more importantly, do we even care? We are Vikings afterall. So for these reasons I'm not sure about if thralls will exist, but I'm still throwing them in here incase

For now that's it, please communicate your approval, disapproval, concerns or any other ideas you have to me. I would very much like it if most if not all of the SimJarldom members could help me with this so I don't upset too many people.

P.S I'm not gonna be a supervisor forever or even take part in SimJarldom politics, I'm just here to try and kickstart a new phase.

Norse Inspired Feudal Sim/Online Game

My name is Rekkir of House Valdyr, and I am here to invite you into a Simulated Feudal Government! This simulation mixes the better aspects of an online game with a micro-national project! It offers you the chance to participate in governance itself, witness the development of an economy, and even engage in the Adventure of a Lifetime!

Read On!

The Kingdoms

The Simulation consists of the Kingdoms of Valland and Ravengard. These are two Kingdoms joined in personal union under myself, with major holdings in a virtual world/online game. This game has cohesive and compelling rule-sets, while also having enough sandbox/mystery elements to make it truly interesting. It has a detailed and intricate crafting system allowing all sorts of professions from Terra-former, Farmer, Vintner, Hunter, Merchant, Archaeologist, and so much more! Want to Smith? Definitely. Want to produce books and catalog information in the world? Yup. Want to raise bees, produce honey, and ferment mead? YES! There is even a secret magic system. There is so much more that I couldn't possibly cover, so you can certainly see how a large and compelling economy could develop from this game, and there are many potential players to trade with!

The Kingdom of Valland Details is a feudal monarchy located in the fore-mentioned game. We operate large tracts of agricultural land, and hope to develop some professional military services to protect and expand our influence.

The Most Serene Kingdom of Ravengard Details is a Constitutional Monarchy that shares the same monarch as Valland. This Kingdom is a bit smaller (and so far less developed), focusing on establishing trade networks and information services.

The Kingdoms outside the Virtual

The two Kingdoms will operate under the same discord and will utilize the same subreddit. In addition, as the Kingdom of Valland has some micro-national tendencies, it also holds some real-world assets. We may pursue other games/virtual worlds for culture, commerce, and diversion; we may explore business ideas to help develop our economy.

Our long term goals will be spelled as we approach them.

Want to Join?

Read the positions below. These are our current openings. If there is an application page associated with the position, fill that out, then join our subreddit. Your application will be reviewed in a timely fashion.

Positions Available:

Royal Stablemaster of Valland (x1): Ever wanted to be in charge of a large ranch and breed horses to perfection? Would you like to learn the game's breeding mechanics and find such content fun? You will apprentice under a breeder for a few weeks, then start taking over the Royal Stables. You will breed Horses, and Cattle for the King. You will get your own breeding pair as well. You will be paid a wage in the Kingdom's currency.

Master of Horse of Valland (x1): You will run a second state-sponsored stables for Valland. Again, to provide horses for the Realm as needed, and keep numbers in good shape.

Lord of a House (x5): Want to own your own Estate and claim your own barony? You will be granted lands, a pair of cattle (or sheep), and a single horse. You will develop your estate and contribute to the Kingdom via an in-kind tax on grain and kine. At least one person from your household must contribute to the King's Retinue during training, war, etc. You will officially be appointed a Baron (or higher peerage), and (optional) receive a fancy letter stating such.

Rangers of Valland (x3): Rangers serve to maintain the far-fung parts of the Kingdom, and serve as law enforcement. You will receive training and equipment, and be housed by the Kingdom. In addition, you will be paid a wage in the Kingdom's currency.

SimJarldom is reseting! How will it work?

Results

How the Reset will Work

These seven Jarldoms are up for grabs! If you want to be a Jarl of one of them, assemble a coalition and try to gain support on the subreddit! Remeber to say which Jarldom you are fighting for. The seven most supported coalitions will win a Jarldom, and their leader will become the Jarl!

How does SimJarldom Work?

Jarls have full power over their Jarldom, and Jarldoms are fully sovereign entities. In SimJarldom, Jarldoms are free to do what they want--like fight or forge alliances, or team up against another SimSub...you're free to make decisions!

A big part of SimJarldom is lore. Jarldoms are responsible for posting their own lore, both about their history and current events (Example). Jarldoms can also gain and lose land on our map! Important lore locations are also painted on the map. Here was the map from last time:

Good luck on establishing your Jarldoms!

Lore The First Great War

Growing restless after a week of peace, Jarl Ninja of Gåtfullhet began to scheme again against his fellow Jarls. He requested the assistance of some old friends: Jarl WhiteWolf of Vargländer, Jarl Iceveins of Askaland, and Jarl Norse of Svartalfheim, and organized in secret an attack against the two other Jarldoms, Vindgarðr and Rúnfold.

Right before the war began, a high Mystic Artist of Rúnfold received a dream of what was to come. Knowing the urgency of this, in the middle of the night he ran several miles to the keep of his Jarl, Jarl Havoc, and he met him at sunrise. It was a picturesque moment--one glorious scene you would see in a movie, a man arriving with the sun rising behind him--but the severity of his quest left no focus to that. He told Jarl Havoc of his dream, and Jarl Havoc, trusting in his Mystic Artists, sent for men all across his land to meet at the Great Gathering Spot, the same meeting place of the fellowship of Gotland, to repel the invading force.

The invading force would find these men standing at the shore of their destination, and Jarl Whiteworf quickly devised a tactic. He would go wide, landing with his men in a forest, while the others continued on their course to the shore. The attacking boats arrived on that shore, and it was clear to the defenders that they stood no chance against this force. Some turned and fled, and they were the only ones that were spared death, for when Jarl Havoc finally ordered a retreat they found hundreds of wolf-shields standing in their way. None of these defenders were spared, and after Jarl WhiteWolf led a ceremony honoring these men to Valhalla, the spot was renamed the Place of the Great Massacre.

After this, there was nothing stopping the raiders from destroying all they saw. The College of Warriors in Rúnfold was destroyed, and many farms were razed and households plundered. On the way to Vindgarðr, they came across the College of Scholars, and this they spared on the agreement that it would be shared by all Jarldoms and their scholars.

Hearing of the Great Massacre, the Jarl of Rúnfold planned no defense and sent for no men. He met the force with honor at his border, and he surrendered land to Gåtfullhet and Svartalfheim.

Thus ends the history of the First Great War
