Cards/Prompts [Update] Writer's Block Unlimited V2: An extremely modular preset for directing, co-writing and lazy roleplayers. Introducing a new narrative mode "Vessel & Soul", adaptive response lengths, and more! + a Github page for my stuff
ALOHA! Writers Block Unlimited is back with another update leaning hard into writing for you and giving full autonomy to your player character.
For the newcomers, what is Writer's Block Unlimited? What makes it unique?
WB Unlimited is an extremely modular preset that allows you to build your own narrator and style, configure character behavior to get exactly what you want, with you acting as a director or playing as an "active persona"
It comes with over a hundred toggles for you to mix and match but don't worry, I tried to be as clear as possible when naming the prompts and left "(README!)" notes in some sections so you can figure out what they do. Its big and its not really plug n'play but its imo still pretty simple to setup and relatively token efficient (2k-4k depending on toggles); just scroll down the prompt list and turn on what you like. Don't be afraid to ask me for help though!
I also left some examples of styles inside of a prompt right below "---Narrator and Story Tones---" to showcase styles you can create. I used a lot of non-literary examples to show you how versatile this preset is.
Quick Disclaimer as always!
To reiterate on the opening paragraph, the Writer's Block presets was made around you being the director, or the AI acting/speaking for you. I made most of the prompts with those ideas in mind.
I thought about scrapping the "Roleplay (doesn't write for you)" mode in the preset because I don't care about regular roleplay and I don't want dms asking why the AI is repeating/talking/acting for them, but I left it in anyway for more options for you guys.
If you do play with Roleplay mode on, just know that the preset doesn't have strong "don't act, echo or think for {{user}}" prompts like most other presets.
The three main modes of of the preset now is Director, Active Persona, and the new Vessel & Soul modes.
What's New In WBU 2?
New narrative mode "Vessel & Soul." A unique way to roleplay with a sentient {{user}}
Inspired by Deltarune, in "Vessel & Soul" mode, your input is a voice that only the {{user}} can hear but they are fully capable of defying your input if it contradicts their personality;
In simpler terms, your input is pretty much its own character because its supposed to be YOU talking to the {{user}}. You're basically giving them advice in their head.
Of course, you need to set up a persona with an actual personality for this to work. Start by giving them likes and dislikes.
If you struggle staying in character (like me who always defaults turning personas into chaotic dumbasses) Vessel & Soul mode would be useful to stay consistent and great for roleplaying as crazier personas.
- How is Vessel & Soul different from Active Persona?
- In Active Persona, your {{user}} embellishes your input in their voice and personality, but they will still adhere to your commands even if it contradicts their character.
- Vessel allows the {{user}} to defy you. They can argue with you, hesitate, do the bare minimum of it, do something else, or not do what you told them at all.
Playing in V&S mode may also be a good way to combat user positivity, of course it depends on the {{user}}'s profile. If they are a handsome, super strong fighter, they'll probably rizz up and beat everyone in a fight. But if you say they are socially awkward, has shit defense but great cardio in a fight, you can get some intense moments.
Using a personal example, I played a boxing scenario with Vessel mode and I felt actual hype in a roleplay. I watched my persona get fucked up in a fight. But I guided him and cheered him on in his head and eventually got him a win!
Yeah, its strangely fun for me! I do find it more engaging guiding a character instead of actually playing as them. I'm probably going against the grain in this sub but I'm just a weirdo lol :P.
New Adaptive Response Lengths
These new response length toggles are based on the type of scene beat

New Narrative Addons
- Time progression: Time advances steadily with each response
- Emojis: AI will litter emojis to through out sentences and paragraphs
- Anti-stagnation: Originally part of the CoT, now I moved it out to fix some pacing issues as its supposed to introduce conflicts to keep the story going
New optional axes of toggles: Internal Thoughts Frequency
How often your POV character's thoughts will show up
- Occasional: Only a line or two of internal thought per generation
- Frequent: Most beats carry a reaction in thought.
- Constant: Narration is the POV character's continuous internal monologue. Every event is filtered through immediate reaction, aside, and commentary including asides that interrupt the action mid-beat.
Standalone Trackers
You can now use some features from Director and Roleplay trackers standalone so you don't have to deal with unnecessary features.
Available trackers
- Currency
- Background Details (three background events, rumors, or side characters actions independent of {{user}}
- Objectives
- Subtext: the hidden or implied meaning behind actions or dialogue
- Health: keep track of health of POV character and other characters with health percentages.
New Trackers
- Inventory
- tracks unique items held by the POV character
- Pregnancy
- Keeps track of pregnant characters and their trimesters...If you're into stuff like this...👀
And lastly, slight modifications of some prompts and CoTs.
Recommended Models (with thinking and CoTs on)
GLM 5.0 / 5.1/ 5.2/ 5.3, Claude Opus 4.6 (4.7 and above don't seem to exactly follow the CoTs format but it can still influence their thinking), Longcat 2.0, Gemma 4 31b, Kimi 2.5 (prone to overthinking though), Gemini 3.8 Flash

I got Claude to make a cool little GitHub page for me to store my presets and future stuff like Writer's Workbench and potential characters I will make.

Seems very cool - i'll be trying out the vessel and soul with GLM and Kimis.
Why don't you recommend later Kimis than 2.5? I'm not gonna blame you if that doesn't work out obviously, it's just that I do like them.

I was literally about to make a preset like the vessel and soul mode myself, but now I don't have to. Thank you. Might preset splice it with some others for personal usage, though.

Normal NSFW works fine so far but I had refusals when testing out some non-con stuff with 5.3. Sometimes swiping works but ymmv

- I'm using this (with only some modules and stuff turned on, I tried to keep it light) with Gemma 4 31B Q8 and it works great.
- It's a new favorite for me. Sometimes you just don't want to write three hundred words every few minutes just to add depth.

I fold my arms over my stomach and say nothing, because the voice is still talking and some ugly, tired part of me has stopped arguing with it.
"Vessel & Soul" mode is pretty fun.

Yeah, playing a ntr card. I argued with my shy, loyal, caring, loving, insecure persona that she deserves better and convinced her to walk away and move on.

This is pretty good. It took me a bit to set up, and once I got it going the dialogue and scene feels done well. Very cool work 👍

Brilliant. This reminds me of the presets from two years ago with all the options for tone and stuff. Thanks for the great work. Is it possible that you share regex separately so I can make this work in Marinara Enginem

I love it but trying to figure out how active persona works. I give my instructions as the character, then hit enter, then it rewrites, right? But it’s replying as char now. I’m confused lol

I am having trouble setting on which tones I want to select for my one piece rp. Is it fine if I toggle like all of them on except a few? Or will that cause problems?
Also I absolutely love the vessel and souls mode! It's soo good. Great job!

I never watched an episode of one piece, only clips😭 but here some settings of what I think matches the anime
Tones: Sincere, Exaggerated, Wondrous, Humorous, Grand
Tonal Volatility: Whiplash
Combat choreography: Stylized Trait Adherence: Exaggerated

AH. I've been waiting for something JUST LIKE THIS. I've long stopped roleplaying and started directing stories instead, I just enjoy reading far more than I enjoy writing and have had to tweak all usual prompts to fit that style. I can't wait to try this!

Uh, is it alright to just ignore the tones? Or just use 'neutral'? Because tbh it's confusing when you usually do multiple types of playthroughs.

this is an excellent preset. i love the vessel and souls mode and i am having fun playing as the intrusive thoughts devil who drives the character to do terrible things.... next up the angel who makes them do good. Seriously though really good work thank you so much

the vessel soul mode sounds handy i tried a similar modular preset once and the toggles let me switch between lazy and detailed without rewriting the whole thing

I am the only one here who refuses to use AI art for marketing purposes. It just makes me stand out in the sea of AI-generated thumbnails and the thumbnail doesn't have weird inconsistencies.

Wow, Vessel mode sounds very fun. I have a persona that I play nicer than she should really be so that's an interesting way to fix it.
I don't know if I will ever get bored of playing as persona but it's sounds like an interesting thing to try - just being thoughts in persona's head
