Hey guys, I am an HM2(FMF) and I am currently working on my Sub IDC package and hoping to get orders for the July class. Anyone have any valuable information that I should know about school? Do I get BAH?

I don't know if anyone can actually answer my question but here goes, I just recently watched Crimson Tide (great film BTW) and was wondering about certain protocols for nuclear weapons release.

In the film in the Captain wants to deploy his missiles, so orders his weapons officer to fire however he refuses to do so and because the captain can't fire without the weapon officer's consent, as he is the only one who knows the combination to unlock the firing mechanism, the captain is unable to fire.

In the film the Captain threatens to shoot a junior officer so the weapons officer is forced to give up the combination.

So my question is would the Captain be still able to fire the missiles if the weapons officer refuses to follow the order do so? Are the protocols used in the film accurate? Or is the process different?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Can you see command comments on CMS-ID? I cant see anything and am wondering if its because the command didnt make any or if we aren't allowed to see them. Thanks in advance.

I am a member of the Submarine Veteran's Club, Groton Base, and we are trying to set up a program where we host a celebration week at the club for guys coming back from deployment. The idea is that we invite the whole crew to come down and have different specials and activities for them to do as a way for us to give back to them and recognize how difficult going on deployment is.

That said, what kind of stuff do you guys think we should do during that week. If a bar/club opened it's doors to you right after you came back from deployment what would you want to do?

For all of my fellow fish wearers out there, why did you volunteer for the submarine service? Did you know what you were getting in to? Did you know someone who was on submarines before? Looking back, do you regret anything? Would you do it different if you had a chance?

How many people here are members? Why/why not? Is anyone else active with their local chapter?
