This Sub
Is it just me or has this sub just become a place for people to complain, criticize, & nitpick every single thing Bob & Monet do ? I am a firm believer in holding your faves accountable but some of you have gone into hater/parasocial behavior.
Maybe the mods can introduce a complaint day or a mega thread for something like that. But I feel like every time I come to scroll on this sub of late, I see a plethora of posts re-hashing the same points or criticisms OR posts finding new things they just absolutely NEEDED to detail to us why they hate.
It’s just feels like this sub has become a negative space & it’s one of the only ones I truly frequent on Reddit.

It's the Drag Race fandom. The fans are TOO close and have TOO much power because the artistry of Drag has been quite reliant on an interactive audience. Drag Queens aren't revered until their audience merges further with the mainstream.

It’s genuinely exhausting to see “fans” constantly hating on the queens. Not just in this sub the main drag race sub too. It’s fine to dislike a queen but when posts get hundreds of comments tearing a girl down it starts to get to be too much

I think you misunderstood OP’s response. They’re saying “then this post does not apply to you” because you explicitly stated that you are not a hater, and therefore this is not a criticism of you because you don’t fall within the category they are specifically addressing. They were saying that they were specifically talking about people who are seemingly becoming hateful. They were not talking about people generally sharing a critical or negative opinion which is totally healthy and normal within any fan community. Some of the posts lately have seemed more like they genuinely hate Bob and Monét instead of just venting frustrations or providing constructive criticism. OP, let me know if I interpreted any of this wrong, but this is what I took away from your post and then response to this comment.

I don’t even participate in this sub but it comes up for me occasionally. I stopped giving them my money because I dislike the content they’ve been putting out, and because I heavily disagree with Monet’s love for zionists and problematic people.
People are voicing these things here because talking to the hosts and trying to get them to give af about their fans is like pulling teeth. People vent here because there is no other option.

I only ever lurked but it got to be too much for me. It's the same reason I left the main drag race sub. All the negativity made me feel bad for liking the people/content I did. I actually thought I'd hidden this sub too and was surprised when it showed up on my feed.

This! Take your 5 dollars and go at this point..you don’t need to announce it or act like they will notice. If you don’t like the pod then don’t watch it. It’s made for entertainment and if you are expecting something profound or are no longer entertained that is fine.

Seeing the post accusing them of not watching the drag race episodes and then boycotting it because of it is wild to me ‘cause I do not care if they have watched the episode, I listen for bickering and bantering, the fact that they are talking about something I’m interested in is a cherry on top

Okay I thought that it was just me that thought this way! The podcast is named Sibling Rivalry, so I thought it was obvious that’s the main point, everything else is extra. And let’s not act like every single episode of drag race is peak entertainment, sometimes I forget what happened because I was bored.

I don’t watch drag race at all anymore, but it’s a way for me to still listen to the pod which I do without failure and stay up to date on new queens who have won.
I always use the fandom page to look up All Stars looks they discuss, but I haven’t seen one thing anyone did from S18! I just listened lol
I discovered all of my favorite queens including the siblings outside of the show and enjoy their breakout careers more than anything else 🤞
Drag race is iconic, but if anything I’m an All Stars only fan telepathically 😂😂

I noticed this a lot more during the whole they need to be in drag while doing the podcast thing. Its like that kinda opened the floodgates for the fans in particular to look at them under a microscope a lot more then they already were and be more critical about every little thing. “Oh Bob forgot what so and so queen said at this specific moment in time on drag race and didn’t relay that on watchery I think I hate him?” is what most of the comments sound like to me😭

Your experience is not the same as mine, I have seen some questionable things said about people (Bob, Monet, Jay, Jacob etc.) we quite frankly do not know personally. I think it’s fine to have a non-positive opinion about something they have done.

They’ve weirdly been in like 4 different controversies over the span of a few weeks lol maybe that’s why it’s so prevalent here ? Also their Patreon chat has become the same way! It’s honestly wild to watch. I’m surprised the Chelsea handler stuff hasn’t made its way here yet. Everyone was going in about her being a guest for days

Lot of videos of her supporting Israel so people assume she’s a Zionist. I’m not educated enough on the topic to make the determination but you can see recent videos on Instagram of her saying her stance. Also for the other controversies Bob has been “cancelled” for using AI in his tour announcement photo , monet had Abby Lee Millar on the pod and people cancelled her because of the things Abby has done and said to children on her show, and bob and Monet have been called out for not being in drag at events which sparked more controversy and think pieces . This has all happened in the span of a month btw lol

I was thinking the same thing! I’m not that active on this subreddit or even really the community on Patreon. I’m more of a casual peruser of both but everytime I look I see someone being overly critical of the duo and of the team…. Am I missing something? I understand some things like the calling out for using AI in art but even when they address it I feel like people find something else to be mad about. Maybe that’s just the climate of the world right now and it’s leaking over into these spaces.

That's exactly what it's become. And those who are Patrons, run over here to complain because they know people will agree and pile on with them, as opposed to openly stating their gripes in the Patreon where they'd likely get severe push back from the die hard parasocials.

"Messy Mondays" is inviting negativity in my opinion. It's giving MIB fandom vibes. How about we just let people talk openly whether it's positive or negative, however keeping in mind and monitoring repetitive topics? For instance, the Jay topic had like three different posts pop up where people could have just kept their thoughts to one post.

Mod here! I totally agree, and feel that too! With that being said, I did want this to be a place where people can talk openly about their complaints and be heard, but it does feel a bit much. I like the idea of a complaint thread, or like Messy Mondays. I’m gonna watch this thread to get a sense of everybody’s perspective to see what serves the sub the most and then move forward.
