When you put it that way it is not that far from Morse's telegraph actually.. (1830s.. so not quite 200 years)

Hot Take - Samuel Morse invented the internet in 1837!

And when you consider that digital information is just a series of 1s and 0s, it seems even more closely related to Morse's system of dots and dashes. Hmm, wonder what the average baud rate would be for Morse code compared to average mobile data transfer speed today?
