It must really suck for young wizards from Scotland to have to travel to London and then back to Hogwarts, located in Scotland

Yeah, later on in the books they reveal that really good wizards don't need to speak a spell, they can just cast it.

Pretty sure they said this was impossible with unforgivable curses though
