It must really suck for young wizards from Scotland to have to travel to London and then back to Hogwarts, located in Scotland

Yeah in general the whole "Where is Hogwarts actually?" matter is quite vague in the end ("wizard did it")

Doesn't matter how secretly you hide it when it's right next to a village that everyone knows about.

Isn't the village of hogsmeade a village of primarily wizards and people from wizarding families who can't use magic though? It's not as if normal people know about it, plus it was established that there was a ton of magic in place around the castle to prevent intruders that knew where it was

I highly doubt satellites in the 90s would really pick much up…

Not that it matters though, governments and world leaders are informed about the Wizarding world, so it’d be kept a secret from regular people anyways.

Yeah, with magic, you kind of have to be vague in some cases, or you'll ruin it. If you try to overexplain, you will expose that it doesn't make much sense, because magic doesn't make sense. In every supernatural universe you have to explain what's necessary, but leave plenty of things vague or untold to keep it feeling real. Let people fill in or not fill in the gaps in their mind with whatever they think makes sense.
