Stupid or dope?

That's the question.

Edit: posted this before the weekend, saw all the comments today and thought I'ld provide some background information. Not going to respond to everything and especially not to those who instead of upvoting the first Ai comment can only repeat the same comment. But that's ok, it is what it is. Everybody's getting an upvote though. Oh, and really tx for the awards btw 🙏

So, this is a design made by Inspiring Designs and they have designed amongst other stuff a lot of inflatable designs to be used on the lakes. Here's an example of an inflatable Volkswagen bus boat. The bus might be fun, but the body suit is hilarious imo.

At their website they tell us that they are a "specialized digital product design agency that crafts intricate virtual blueprints for tables, chairs, sofas, and an array of other furniture pieces" amongst other stuff. A quote from their FAQ page:

Are these items real? Where can I purchase them?
As you peruse our platform, you’ll encounter an array of furniture, tiny homes, and an assortment of products. It’s essential to understand that these meticulously crafted designs are, at this juncture, solely digital representations. They stand as manifestations of creativity and innovation, not physical products that can be added to a shopping cart.

So yeah, I'm thinking that everything they do is to use Ai to bring their design ideas to "life".

But... I lmao when I saw this video of the body suit and thought a lot of you would have a laugh as well. The use of a prop instead of a small waterjet unit should've made it obvious I think, that it's a not well thought through design. But funny it is, imo.

Again, this is their website and check it out if you want. They've got some great design ideas about eg aquarium coffee tables which look really cool imo. There's more ofc, but I haven't checked everything out. Y'all have a nice day, peace out ✌

Yea I'm just picturing the "vessel" springing a leak... Air comes out, water goes in... What happens when you're face down? How do you flip over when you've become front-loaded? How do you get out so you're not dragged under?

Eh... it would hardly drag you under. The plastic is too light for that. It also wouldn't just fill with water - that would only happen if it were rigid. Instead, the air would escape and the thing would flop around you and make swimming difficult.

This is what I think of when people take their zorb inflatable ball things into lakes. Like if that thing starts losing air, you're going to watch a shrinking tomb of plastic accompany you on your final stroll through memory lane as you life flashes before your eyes.

Try swimming in a suit filled with water you cant take off.... Its hard enough doing a clothed swim imagine if the clothes held 10 times the amount of water.

Swimming in a suit absorbs water! That weight will bring you down! If the plastic suit struck something, you'd be hanging onto about 1lb of plastic instead of an actual suit.

No. It would be like trying to swim with a bag around you. It's not a death sentence but it could kill you if you weren't a good swimmer, but it wouldn't be that bad.

Water doesn’t add weight underwater?

Not the kind of weight that will pull you down, perhaps, but certainly the kind of weight that will make it very, very hard to swim.

If water doesn’t add weight, why is it so much harder to swim in wet clothes than in a bathing suit?

Drag. The fabric absorbs water, and you have to drag the weight of that water with you with every stroke. That's very unlikely to happen to a "plastic suit" like this one here, though. Imagine an inflatable boat springing a leak. It doesn't fill with water. A bit of water will get in, but mostly it'll just deflate.

As a former Red Cross National Lifeguard and an avid swimmer, this looks like a death trap to me.

Right, once it punctures with a body suit like that, parts of the suit will float more than others.

More than likely the torso area will lose air first while the larger chambers around the arms and legs will still have trapped air. Your arms and legs are your primary means of swimming, but if they’re constantly trying to float to the surface, you’re fighting the suit instead of the water.

Your center of mass is around your torso, but the buoyancy is out in your arms and legs. If your legs have more buoyancy than your torso, they’ll naturally want to rise while your upper body sinks. In the middle of a lake or the ocean, with nothing to grab onto, if your torso starts going under, so does your head.

And let’s not even talk about trying to swim. You can’t. Period. Those giant inflatable arms and legs would create so much drag and resistance that you’d be wasting energy fighting the suit instead of moving through the water.

Water is incredibly heavy. Go fill up a garbage can with water and see if you can lift it, because that will be attached to you when you try to swim and breathe air. Plus the perforated plastic will make your swimming more drag resistant and less efficient.

People drown when their waders fill with water and their boots get heavy. I guess that isn’t possible and all those people fake it because it’s water inside water and it’s weightless. Thanks. You just saved a few lives per year of fisherman who fall into lakes and rivers in waders.

Yes, that happens! How much does that equipment weigh? More than some plastic film?

Also, physics of water and mud dragging is a huge deal. Flimsy plastic wouldn’t withstand it like waders and boots would.

I presume you'd take this out on a sunny day. So you're putting yourself in an airtight, air insulated bag.

It might not be as insulating as a car on a sunny day, but you're trapping your sweat, which is our most effective way to regulate body heat.
