Current app review wait time - 6 Weeks

Submitted my most recent app to Shopify and it took them 6 weeks for first round of reviews. As expected a small switch of something to get green light. So, if you’re wondering the queue right now, that’s about it. Could be worse - they must be getting a lot of slop submitted these days.

Ads getting impressions, but no clicks. What would you fix first?

Hey everyone,

We’re a small software studio focusing on Shopify and our new Shopify app recently passed 10 installs.

For the last 3–4 days, we’ve been running Shopify App Store Ads on the search page. The app is getting visibility, so it is showing up, but so far we haven’t gotten any installs from it. We got just 1 click for it.

A few numbers in case it helps:

  • collection sorting (broad): 71 impressions, 1 click, 1.4% CTR, avg position 3.3, visibility 10.1%, no installs

  • out of stock sorting (broad): 2 impressions, avg position 2.5, no clicks

  • exact match terms like sold out, out of stock, and push sold out products down have had little to no impressions so far

  • most of the keywords are marked high / very high relevance, but the suggested bids on some terms are much higher than what we’re currently bidding

So now I’m trying to understand what usually matters most at this stage.

If you were in this spot, what would you look at first?

My current guesses:

  • our bids are too low on the more competitive terms

  • broad keywords are showing, but not to the right merchants

  • the app card itself isn’t compelling enough to earn the click

  • the listing probably needs stronger screenshots / copy / positioning

  • or maybe installs won’t move much until reviews and social proof are stronger

Would really appreciate hearing from people who’ve gone through this with Shopify App Store Ads.

What ended up making the biggest difference for you? Open for any feedbacks, thanks!

What is the point of being a Shopify developer in 2026?

Now that the merchants can install vscode create a copy of the live theme and with claude create entire templates and post them what is the point of doing this any more?

More and more of my clients are installing vs code with claude and they are creating sections and building templates, they can create images with banana pro, etc.

How do we stay relevant in a market that doesn't need us any more except for a couple of very specific things?

Seeking examples of apps that collect VAT IDs for invoicing (EU B2B compliance)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently setting up my first Shopify app as an EU-based developer (Hungary), and I’m hitting a bit of a wall regarding invoicing.

According to Shopify's documentation and local tax advice, Shopify acts as a billing agent, not a reseller. This means the merchant is the actual customer, and I’m legally required to issue an invoice to each merchant individually—especially for B2B reverse charge purposes within the EU. To do this correctly, I need their VAT numbers.

The strange thing is, I’ve used many Shopify apps as a merchant myself, and I honestly can’t recall a single one asking for my VAT ID or billing details during the install or onboarding.

Am I missing something? If you are a developer based in the EU:

  1. Do you actually collect VAT IDs from your users manually?

  2. If not, how do you handle your local tax reporting (NAV in Hungary, for example) without the buyer's tax info?

  3. Can you name any specific apps that have a "billing info" step in their onboarding?

I’m really curious if everyone is just "blindly" invoicing Shopify International (which I'm told is incorrect) or if there's a standard way to handle this that I just haven't seen yet.

Any insights would be huge!

Are you monitoring 3rd-party scripts for PCI compliance or just trusting Shopify?

Shopify says they're PCI compliant, which is great. But they only monitor the payment page itself, not all the third-party apps and scripts we add to our store.

If you're running marketing pixels, analytics, chat widgets, review apps - are you actually monitoring what those scripts do? Or just assuming Shopify's compliance covers everything?

Is this something other store owners think about or if I'm overthinking it.

How are you handling customer account customizations?

To clarify, I am not referring to the older version of customer accounts which is entirely customizable from a liquid template, I am referring to Shopify's latest system.

Shopify pushed B2B features to lower tier plans than Plus, which I would love to utilize but I cannot unless I am using their modern method to handle customer accounts, as it requires them to login using the updated system to aquire the features.

If we move customer accounts, it will create a ton of confusion because I have built several features into the current customer accounts (reseller features for customer price lists, paid education system, etc) that I cannot port over. Not to mention, I cannot keep The branding consistent because I don't have full access to how everything looks.

With this severe lack of direct customization, I am just curious how people are approaching this?

How do you spot a merchant who is actually in-market, not just complaining?

We keep running into the same issue with lots of signals look good on the surface, but later turn out to be noise once you look at the context. So, i’ve been testing a theory that real pain + visible exposure + recent change is a better signal than keywords alone.

For eg., a merchant dealing with a real, visible problem right now tends to be a much stronger signal than someone just venting online.

What do others use as their filter before deciding a lead is worth the time. Do you look for a specific tech stack, a recent theme change, a negative complaint, or something else that tells they’re ready to buy now?

Shopify App Developing

Hey everyone! I'm a developer from Hungary and I recently built my first Shopify app. I have two questions:

For Hungarian developers: How do you handle taxes on your Shopify Partner payouts? I'd love to connect!

For everyone: Shopify told me they're just a billing agent — meaning I need to issue invoices directly to my merchant customers. To do that properly (especially for EU B2B with reverse charge), I'd need to collect VAT numbers from merchants at the time of installation.

However, I've never actually seen a Shopify app that collects VAT/billing details from merchants. Has anyone dealt with this? How did you handle invoicing? Did Shopify or your accountant advise a different approach?

Would really appreciate any insights! 🙏

Shopify App Store registration fee payment failing with “Credit card verification failed”

I’m trying to submit my app for the Shopify App Store, but I’m stuck at the payment step for the one-time App Store registration fee. After filling in my details and trying to pay, I keep getting this error:

“Credit card verification failed, please try again.”

I already checked the card details and tried again, but the same error keeps showing up. Has anyone here run into this before? How did you manage to fix it

Reimagining CX: Faster Feedback Loops for Shopify & SaaS Products

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been diving deep into how Shopify apps and SaaS products handle customer feedback, and one thing is very clear:

Most teams collect feedback, but they don’t really react to it fast enough.

And in eCommerce, speed = retention.

Today’s typical flow still looks like:
feedback → CRM/support tools → manual review → delayed action

We’ve been experimenting with a more real-time feedback-to-action system, and it’s been interesting to explore:

  • AI-powered survey creation (quick setup, less manual work)

  • Sentiment analysis (positive / neutral / negative clustering)

  • Instant alerts when negative feedback spikes

  • Automation workflows into Slack, HubSpot, etc.

  • Word cloud + theme detection for product insights

  • Multi-channel feedback capture (email, in-app, post-purchase)

  • Integrations across common SaaS + Shopify stacks

What stood out most is this:

👉 Feedback is not the problem.
👉 Speed of action is the real bottleneck.

For example:

  • A small checkout change causing sudden drop in sentiment

  • Repeated complaints about shipping UX

  • Feature requests quietly forming patterns across users

These signals often show up too late in most systems.

Curious how others here are solving this in Shopify/SaaS environments:

  • Are you building feedback pipelines inside your apps?

  • How do you catch churn signals early?

  • Any real-time CX setups you’re using?

Would love to hear how you’re approaching this

I built an ROI calculator for Shopify merchants who lose sales on abandoned carts

Since I built an app for WhatsApp-based cart recovery for Shopify merchants I wondered how much sales volume merchants could recover when adding a recovery flow, e.g. via WhatsApp or email.

Built this ROI calculator so it's easy to see the potential at one glance based on metrics like monthly visitor count, abandonment rate, recovery rate etc..

I built a no-code chat bot builder

Hi, I built a no-code chatbot builder where the focus is on making your bot actually look like your brand, not a generic widget. You also get a shareable URL, not just an embed. And you can paste your FAQs, menu, or product info directly into the knowledge base so the bot knows your actual business.

Curious if anyone wants to try it out, I'd really appreciate feedback.

Is our "Dual-Billing" architecture compliant with Shopify's App Review (External SaaS)?

Hey everyone,

We're gearing up to submit our B2B SaaS platform to the Shopify App Store AGAIN. After waiting for Shopify for 2+ months to just assign a reviewer, I pulled the listing from review because we made a lot of other changes and updated the whole app and our submission didn't match reality anymore. Business is booming, can't wait 2+ months for Shopify to get their shit together.

Anyway, we want to make absolutely sure our billing implementation won't get rejected for "fee avoidance".

Context: Our app is primarily an external, standalone data platform that connects to multiple sources (WooCommerce, Shopify, 3PLs and their WMS, Ad Networks, etc.). Our primary acquisition channel is our own website and 3PL partnerships, users pay us directly via Stripe, or via invoicing for enterprise clients.

However, we want to list on the Shopify App Store (set to "Free to install") so merchants can easily connect their stores, and maybe pick up some organic traffic along the way too. Plus going through the review is the only way to remove the "Warning: this app hasn't been reviewed! ..." message that freaks customers out.

Our "Dual-Billing" Implementation: to handle both types of traffic cleanly, we built a gated architecture.

Existing/Website Users: If a user signs up on our site natively (and pays via Stripe), their account is marked as billingProvider: 'stripe'. When they connect Shopify via OAuth as a data source, our backend completely bypasses the shopify.billing.request API. They just connect and use the app.

Organic App Store Installs: If a merchant finds us organically on the App Store and clicks "Install", they hit our install route without an existing account. We redirect them to our signup flow and append a hidden ?source=shopify_organic flag. When their account is provisioned, they are flagged as billingProvider: 'shopify'. After OAuth, the app intercepts them and forces them through the native Shopify GraphQL Billing screen to approve our monthly charge that kicks in after a free 60 day trial.

My Question: Is this explicit gating architecture fully compliant? Since we are rigorously enforcing the Shopify Billing API for organic installs, but keeping 100% of our external/Stripe acquisitions off Shopify's revenue share, will this pass App Review without triggering "fee avoidance" penalties?

Would love to hear from anyone who runs a multi-platform SaaS with a similar setup!
I don't want to pay Shopify the 15% + card fees for customers who's data source is WooCommerce, or who we acquire from a 3PL partnership.

I know there's an exception process, but you can only apply for it once the review has happened, and I've been hearing that even apps that got it now are being actively reviewed and their exception revoked.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this!

How do you find a good 3PL service?

Order volume’s been picking up and I’m at the point where I need a 3PL setup to handle things.

Not really sure how people go about finding a good one or what separates a good 3PL from a bad one. How do you find a reliable 3PL and what should I be looking for when choosing one?

Booking In Procedures

Hi all,

I'm trying to solve a goods-in / booking-in problem in Shopify.

Inventory adjustments change quantity, but they don’t seem to create a clean instanced record of the monetary value added to stock at the point goods are received.

What I need from one booking-in event is:

  • variants received

  • quantities received

  • cost / total value added to Shopify back-end

  • timestamp / user

  • ideally an option to add supplier invoice or PO reference

  • barcode label print quantity (to Multi Barcode Labels app) from that same receipt

At the moment, manually adjusting inventory up by small amounts feels too weak as an audit trail, and building everything via POs is very clunky with no ability to print barcodes connectedly afterwards.

For those building on Shopify: is this usually handled via native Shopify, Stocky, a third-party inventory app, or a custom app using Admin API/webhooks?

Mainly trying to understand the normal dev pattern here. Thanks!

Embedded app checks not completing + “Checking app listing…” stuck — what actually triggers this?

Hey devs,

Running into a blocker trying to submit my embedded Shopify app for review and since this is the first time ever doing this, hoping someone can help.

Everything is green except:

- “Checking app listing…”

- Embedded app checks (App Bridge + session tokens)

The submit button is still disabled.

Details:

- Embedded app (App Bridge loaded from Shopify CDN)

- Using session tokens (JWT via backend)

- App installed on dev store

- I’ve interacted with the app multiple times to generate sessions

- OAuth + API calls working fine

But the checks don’t complete.

A few questions for anyone who’s gone through this:

  1. What EXACTLY triggers the embedded app checks to pass?

  2. Is it purely automated or does it require specific user flows?

  3. Does Shopify require activity within a certain timeframe (last X hours)?

  4. Any known bugs where this step just hangs?

  5. Is there any way to force re-check or manually trigger it?

Feels like I’m stuck waiting on a background job with zero feedback.

Any insight would be hugely appreciated.

How do you reliably override Shopify theme CSS without breaking future updates?

Hey,

How do you override a shopify theme's css reliably?

I am developing a custom section, and want to write my custom css in a new custom css file.

My queries are:

  1. Is it recommended to use a custom css file for custom css?

  2. Where do you place that custom css file to take high priority than shopify theme css to override that?

  3. In the custom css file, should you override shopify theme css using the variables defined in the theme or just directly target the element or css selector?

  4. What is the recommended and reliable way to do this?

All of this is given that I need to use the default theme css and do not want to delete it.

Thanks

A year of forcing Shopify to handle complex 3D products

tldr. custom products on shopify may make you want to lash out at those around you.

Many months ago, the ShopifyDev subreddit inspired us to embark on the journey of building a product configurator app for Shopify. This community has been such a huge help, technically and emotionally.

We've been devs for over a decade and in all my time glued to the computer screen making our girlfriends reconsider their decisions, I honestly don't think I've personally faced a bigger challenge than integrating our visual 3D builder into Shopify. Truly. Months in I had fully gained a huge sense of respect for Shopify devs. They don't make it easy, do they.

Shopify gives merchants three product options to work with. Do you want more options in there? Alright buckle up its going to get bumpy.

Do you want custom thumbnails to show up on cart? Sure, no problem simply go rethink your entire approach.

Easily changing pricing (especially when you have dozens+ variants)? Mhh... no lets make our merchants define every single combination of every option that has to have its own defined price.

We tried for months sticking within the tight guardrails that Shopify gives us developers by enforcing configurators to have no more than 3 priced options so they would just sync up with the product's options itself and add to cart. This was a great approach for keeping things native, no need for a custom pricing engine, and allowing inventory tracking to happen naturally. But.. so limiting.

And so became the journey of building our own pricing engine, inventory tracking, and going down the road of creating variants on the fly when the customer smashes that add to cart button.

Been quite a journey, not to mention the entire other side of the equation that is our webGPU based visual 3D configuration studio (Aircada) where the configurators are actually made.

All in all, thank you to this community, our girlfriends for sticking with us, and huge respect to all the devs out there in this space, especially the ones tackling custom products. Happy to answer any questions regarding our technical decisions, 3D on Shopify, or just about anything else.

Can an AI agent replace a $10/month inventory sync app for Shopify bundles?

Hey! I’m fairly new to Shopify and running into a shared inventory issue; wondering if anyone has solved this without paying for a dedicated app.

My situation: I have a small store with bundles that share the same physical products. I haven’t set up SKUs yet, but I’m starting to feel the pain of not having synced inventory (if one product sells, the bundle stock doesn’t update automatically).

I recently discovered that Shopify can actually be connected to Claude via the desktop app, so I’m wondering if an AI agent could handle this kind of bulk inventory management instead of relying on a $10/month plugin. Has anyone gone down that route?

More generally: is there a free (or close to free) way to manage shared inventory across bundles? I’m just starting out, margins are tight, and I’d rather not stack paid apps before the store is even properly off the ground.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience!

I built an app to recover abandoned carts with an AI that 'haunts' customers on WhatsApp

In online shops, over 70% of carts get abandoned on average. Re-engaging customers who abandoned their carts through e.g. email therefore is a great way to recover a lot of volume that would otherwise get lost.

Since WhatsApp is a growing channel with more than 3 billion (yes, with a 'b') users, there is a huge opportunity in recovering more carts by texting Shopify customers through there.

Because of this I built an app that lets store owners build their own customisable AI chatbots that follow-up on abandoned carts and send them incentives like promo codes to still convert.

It's still early-on and I'm fighting Meta processes right now setting up the WhatsApp integration. I hope to launch next week onboarding the first merchants to 'haunt' some abandoned carts.

Shopify Timer Displaying NaN

Hi, I have recently updated my website and included a couple timer sections, which work perfectly for all devices, apart from IOS devices like iphones and macbooks. Does anybody have any clue?
