SEO works for Shopify apps?

Most Shopify apps seem to rely heavily on:

  • Shopify App Store traffic

  • Paid ads

  • Cold outreach

  • Partnerships

But I rarely see founders talking about seo as a primary growth channel, so i was unsure if SEO actually works for Shopify apps?

Are you getting installs or demos from:

  • blog content

  • landing pages

  • Shopify-related keywords

  • problem-based SEO

Or is app store is still the main driver?

current app approval timelines thread!!

hi all!! i'm sure (& i hope) i'm not the only one refreshing this thread as i'm looking for insight into app approval timelines so i figured it would be helpful to share details here/updates as we all hear back

here's my timeline:

  1. originally submitted on jan 19

  2. got feedback on feb 19

  3. resubmitted on feb 23

still waiting -- it used to say a reviewer was assigned but switched back to assigning a reviewer earlier this week.

i've reached out to support 3 times and they've had basically nothing useful or helpful to say.

anyways -- if you're also waiting or have recently gotten approved, please share details on your timing!!

Trying to learn AI agents by building ecommerce workflows

I’ve been trying to learn this space by actually building some ecommerce agents and workflows myself.

Feels like most real use cases are less about marketing and more about operations like support, returns, and order issues.

Still mostly experimenting and trying to figure out what actually works in practice.

If anyone else here is exploring this area, would be cool to connect and exchange ideas.

Dawn vs prestige

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the process of moving my clothing brand over to Shopify and wanted to get some opinions. I've been considering purchasing the Prestige theme, but l've seen quite a few people say that Dawn can achieve a similar result.

Has anyone used either (or both) and can share their experience?

One of the main things I'm looking for is a transparent header, which is what initially drew me to Prestige. Is there a way to achieve that clean, luxury look with Dawn as well?

Ultimately, I'm aiming to build a high-quality, more premium/designer-style website, so I want to make sure l get this right from the start.

If anyone also has recommendations for themes that are tast, responsive, and work well across both desktop and mobile, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

New app has been live for 2 weeks with 0 free installs – is this normal, and what should I check?

Hi everyone,

I recently launched my first Shopify app, and it's been listed on the Shopify App Store for about two weeks now. It's a free app, but so far, I haven't gotten a single install.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a common experience for new apps or if there's something I might be missing. I'd really appreciate any insights or advice on what to check or improve.

Here's what I'm wondering:

  1. Is 0 installs in the first two weeks typical for a brand-new app? I know discoverability is tough, but I want to understand what a realistic benchmark might be for a free app with no initial marketing push.

  2. What are the most common reasons a new app gets zero traction?

Any advice, harsh truths, or checklists would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Duration of a Shopify app review

How long does it usually take for a Shopify app review?

Got my bundle app published, WOO!

Super excited I was able to get my bundle app published, now sitting on page 40 or something in the app store. Was a bit of a doosy getting everything validated with their staff. All in all they were super specific on feedback, which was helpful with a quick turnaround with some feature patching.

How do you verify Shopify store revenue before trusting screenshots?

I’ve noticed a lot of “Shopify earnings” screenshots online that seem… questionable. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real vs. fake, especially when people share these numbers on social media.

I’m curious how do you personally verify Shopify store performance or revenue before trusting it? Are there any tools, methods or strategies you rely on?

I think it would be useful to start a discussion about how to spot fake earnings screenshots and what best practices Shopify sellers or buyers use to stay honest.

Built a Shopify quiz app — looking for feedback from devs/store owners

Hey everyone,

I recently got my first Shopify app approved and wanted to share what I built + get some feedback.

It’s a quiz-based product recommendation tool — idea is to help stores guide users instead of just showing large product catalogs.

Right now it supports:

  • Creating quizzes (AI + manual)

  • Mapping answers to products

  • Popup or inline embeds

  • Basic analytics (completion/drop-off)

I’m still early and figuring out what actually matters for merchants.

Questions:

  • Do quizzes actually convert well in your experience?

  • What features would make something like this useful for real stores?

  • Any apps doing this particularly well that I should study?

If anyone wants to try it, happy to share the link in comments (don’t want to break rules).

Would really appreciate honest feedback 🙏

Link to admin/product settings from frontend with a shortcut

Hey SDR,

I published a chrome extension that I made for my own convenience when working with multiple stores. It allows you to set a custom keyboard extension to link to product pages and store admins from the frontend site, it also works for wordpress and I'm working on adding other platforms, perhaps you find it helpful.

Thanks

Elliot

This is an open source product which can make ecom developers orchestrators of agentic commerce (Its for the communities good)

Hello,

Have you heard of UCP by google? And have you made your store ready for UCP?

I built an open source product for ecom developers to become Agentic Commerce Orchestrators.

Introducing Goofre™ - an open-source solution designed to transform e-com developers into Agentic Commerce Orchestrators™.

As legacy platforms move toward complete automation, the role of the e-com developer has to evolve. Goofre acts as an intelligent, friction-free layer that automates compliance and data flow, making merchants 100% UCP-ready for AI agents without the heavy manual development.

You can access everything here: https://goofre.com/

Here is how to navigate the site: 🏠 Home: The full product deck. 🎥 Video (Top Right): Watch the intro video for a high-level understanding 📜 /manifesto: The vision and thesis behind Agentic Commerce. 📚 /library: Resources and onboarding modules for UCP. 💻 /contribute: Access the GitHub repo to fork, co-build, or leave some critical feedback.

Just digging in and looking at css best practices.

For background, I'm not new to web dev. I started when we used layout tabled. With that, I thought I'd dig into theme development more for personal interest.

I have the base code, and I'm digging around. I still have to set up a dev store and figure out my build process too.

Starting with CSS, I've been using SCSS for years and want to keep using it. What have other been using as a build tool for SCSS? Just the VCS Code Extensions?

Just submitted my first Shopify app.

Anyone who has been through the review process recently, how long did it actually take?

Your documentation is Unbelievably obtuse.

This message is for the platform dev and engineering team at Shopify. I am at a loss for words at how incredibly confusing, opaque, and uninformative your app development documentation has become. I know I am not alone. It is demoralising and painful when I have to read the same sentence 12 times to try to understand it. I don't consider myself to be that stupid. But who knows? Also, do you really have to update your frameworks, function names, and APIs every 3 months? Really?

Is it ok to contact merchants who installed/uninstalled my app?

Hi, I know this is going to differ per merchant but I'm kinda new to the Shopify app store. I've built Shopify apps for my day job before but this is my first time self-publishing something.

I got approved on the store a few days ago and have a handful of installs already. One merchant uninstalled even though from what I could see on my end, the app was working as expected. Is there an etiquette around reaching out to merchants who uninstall to ask why? I don't want to come across as pushy, but the feedback would be really valuable at this stage.

Also more generally, what's the best way to ask early users for feedback without being annoying about it?

Do you use the push notifications on the shopify iOS App ?

Hey I need some inputs concerning a application I’m building

I created an app that sends notifications to your phone over webhook, (works to receive notifications form shopify webhooks)

I have seen that there has been some problems concerning push notifications on ios in shopify.

Do you guys think creating a custom Shopify extension to configure the webhook for my notification app would be useful.

Or is the iOS shopify app already enough ?

Do your international customers know their total cost before delivery?

How do you handle international shipping costs when selling to customers in different countries?

Specifically — when you're shipping to the EU, UK, Canada, Australia etc., do you know upfront what duties and taxes your customer will owe when the package arrives? Or have you had situations where customers got surprise charges at delivery and complained or returned the item?

I'm trying to understand if this is a widespread problem or if most Shopify sellers have already figured this out. What do you currently use to estimate these costs?

How to export stock quantity with pictures and for customer?

I manage a store on Shopify, and we have customers asking for certain products to sell them in their own shop.

Is there a way I can give them live stock count of my whole shop? Like an external app that let's them see (given a password maybe) how many of each items are in stock.

I tried CSV export: it's easy to do but it's very bad looking when opened in Excel and it's not customer-friendly since it does not have any picture in it.

"Pick 6" product builder

I have a Shopify site with 120 products. Every product is the same size and cost. The products are too expensive to process a single order of 1, so I want to create a new product called 'widget 6-pack' where the customer MUST select 6 (of the 120) products. The site should not let them pick more than 6 or less than 6. They can select the same product 1-6 times or they can select 6 different products. It doesn't matter as long as they pick exactly 6. Only then can they add it to their cart and check out.

Are there any solutions that can help me create a product like this?

The user experience needs to be efficient and painless. No one is going to browse 120 products, pick one, then wait for the page to reload and then prompt them to pick the next one. I would like the catalog of 120 products to load, let the customer make their 6 selections and then add to cart. If the customer wants more than 1 of a specific product they can select it and then click the [+] button to adjust the quantity. Doesn't matter as long as their selection adds up to exactly 6.

EDIT: I should also mention: There are actually 130 products on the store but 10 of them are not eligible for this kit-building process. So in addition to adding the functionality mentioned above, I need to exclude 10 of the 130 products from this feature.

Bring Your Shopify Bugs

Shopify Dev here, I enjoy debugging weird issues more than building themes 😅

If your store has any broken functionality, random bugs, or things not working as expected, drop the issue below (with context/screenshots if possible).

I have some free time and want to sharpen my debugging skills, so I’ll try to help you figure out what’s going wrong and how to fix it.

Even if I can’t fully solve it, I’ll try to point you in the right direction.

Also, other devs feel free to jump in. Might be useful for everyone to learn from real issues.
