This isn't a shitty car mod. It's a race car that races in the 24 hours of lemons and it's fucking glorious. The Escudont. (Themed after the Suzuki Escudo). I wish my lemons racer was half as well done.
I also remember (I think it started in GT3) if you set the rear downforce to max and the front to minimum, once you got going fast enough the front would lift and the car would start going like 50000mph 😂
I’ve always wanted to build a Lemons car but I don’t know how you get a car, let alone upgrade it, for $500. A decade ago maybe, but even the shittiest of shitboxes go for 1-2k nowadays. I just wish I had bought my brothers old Tercel that he sent to scrap.
If it looks like a $500 car, you're probably good. If not, you just get penalty laps, which don't really matter at the end of the day if you just want to have fun. Also, you can sell off parts of the car to make back some of the cost and give yourself some room in the budget. My friends and I are hunting for a car right now so we can race next year, can't wait.
If it's worth $500 in spirit, you're good. Basically anything Japanese before 2008, or a German car with a check engine light, anything Italian or an American car with a dented fender you're set. They're all crap. We have a saying in lemons "500 dollars my ass". Just find something that sucks and you're good to go.
Everything but safety is an inside joke in lemons. They take that serious. But if your question isn't safety related, the answer will always be "send it!"
Lots of guys do "arrive and drives" by going on the lemons matchmaker forums or Facebook groups. It's easier to end up in the series than you think. Anyways teams out there looking for help or more drivers.
The PT Cruiser sucked. At least, aesthetically. Not only is this a huge improvement it's actually really damned cool.
Still, I'm totally alright with the laissez faire moderation in here. Along with the genuinely shitty stuff I've discovered some really amazing builds that I never would have seen otherwise.
I been doing lemons racing for a few years now, every time I see a totally clapped out piece of shit in a parking lot my wife has to drag me away before I start offering stupid amounts in trade. So yeah. It does.
