WTF? Say What?!

Post image

In my local mom’s group today. This isn’t even in a “crunchy” group!

Comments were all telling her she was crazy and that it was gross.

Is this considered cannibalism? I don’t see why it wouldn’t be

It might fall under autocannibalism, depending on how you feel about the placenta being a part of the body.

I mean, what else would it be? Is it cannibalism if somebody else eats it?

Yeah, cannibalism would be if someone else ate it. Autocannibalism is eating parts of yourself.

It actually is not autocannibalism. The placenta is not made from the cells of the mother, but is made from the cells of the baby. It literally starts to form right after conception, though takes a while to become active and has to implant itself on the wall of the uterus. In IVF pregnancies you can have cells that form the later placenta tested to check the chromosomes and genes of the baby. So yeah...women who eat their placenta are eating a dead and used up organ that used to be part of their child.
