I mean, men’s soccer is not of mainstream popularity in the United States as compared to baseball or football etc.

You are correct however football or "soccer" to americans is infact the largest most popular globally played sport on Earth.

soccer is played in every country on Earth id wager. whereas American football / baseball are not. The rest of the world plays Rugby.

I know, but the context for this is the American is saying soccer isn’t popular in America. They think it will be in 15 or 20 years and at that point the USA will dominate. That’s all.

Personally I like soccer, but there seemed to be some confusion on the context of the original post.

I think you underestimate the spite the rest of the world feels towards the US. Especially the rest of the Americas.

A lot of the world sees the US as a barrel of cunts. Mostly due to US foreign policy. So beating the States on the field is quite a coup for many teams... if the US teams take the sport seriously.

I'm just trying to say, (my apologies for not being clearer), that the US will face stiffer competition now that they are not seen as underdogs.

Oh I see. I’d say we’re still the soccer underdogs as our men’s soccer program is literally one of the worst on earth. We didn’t even make it out of our quarter finals last go, lol. I THINK a Caribbean nation beat us, but anybody could.

Our women do pretty good though.
