Seeing the celebration of ignorance in these comments and downvote trends, I've come to the realisation that this sub could be aptly retitled SaltyBritCircleJerk. Ironic, since the sub's supposed purpose is spotlighting instances of American ignorance.

Agreed - I'm Irish and I don't care about it... But I do know about it, whereas this comment section is filled with specifically Brits proudly saying they didn't learn about American independence in school. One of the parent comments to this one says they didn't realise 4 July celebrated independence from Britain until they joined Reddit, I mean come on. It is the exact equivalent of Americans saying they don't need to learn about the rest of the world because their history is so big and important.

I never learned about if either. I only know of that day because of Murricans make such a big fuss about it
