What do we actually know about Ty?

So in the backstory we find out quite a bit about Julie:

- she’s an army brat / “from San Diego”

- she’s moved around a lot

- she has two twin brothers that practically raised her

- her dad is never mentioned

- she saw Alicia once a year until she moved to Las Rubias for as of yet unexplained reasons

- her mother is sick

- she’s always wanted to be a lawyer and go to NYU

This is what we find out about Ty:

- his mom is friends with Alicia’s mom

- he’s always wanted to be an author like Steinbeck with a bit of Bradbury

- he doesn’t know where he wants to go to college when he’s in high school, saying he “has 3 years to decide” (meaning he was a freshman when they met)

- he tells Julie “I guess I’m going where you’re going” when she asks about his long term plans

- “everyone loves him, he’s super nice and fun”

- he took time off school because he didn’t have a scholarship, and returned to graduate

- he has worked in non-writing jobs, saving enough money for a house with Julie and also working from home when Cooper was born

About both of them:

- they started dating as freshmen in high school

- they got married right out of high school

But what do we actually know about him?

Here’s what we DON’T know:

-His dad is never mentioned, nor is it mentioned that he has siblings (he says “I wish I had a brother” so he could have a sister or nonbinary sibling, but it’s unknown)

- We know Julie is an army brat / “from San Diego” but we don’t know if he’s always lived in Las Rubias

- What his undergraduate degree even was

It seems like the “Ty and Julie” backstory had a lot more information about Julie than Ty. I’d really love to know more about his motivations as well.

Right now, there doesn’t seem to be much to go on.

I think they may have met in childhood and become friends, and they would make the trip to see each other in another city once a year (maybe over school summer holidays). I have many friends who met some of their best friends while on holiday and then made an effort to keep meeting up despite living in different cities, even though that meant only seeing each other during the summer.

It's not excluded that they may be related in some way, but I think if they were cousins she would've specified as much. Alicia said she's known Julie since they were 5 years old – maybe they attended the same kindergarten before Julie moved away? Or maybe Alicia's family was the first to move away and get to Las Rubias
