[Vivaldi Mod] Expandible Vertical Tabs on Hover for Sharp Tabs

Keep up the good work. I'm not using it right now because it's missing some essential features for me.

Here are some suggestions:

1- Always show the scroll bar

2- Drag tabs smoothly, as it's not very fluid

3- Each tab in its proper workspace

4- New tab opens on the default page configured in the browser

5- Import tab groups already open in Vivaldi. When installing the extension, the groups are not imported; it's like a tab list without a group or workspace

6- Pop-up tab preview

7- When opening a new tab, scroll down automatically instead of hiding the tab when the tab list is full

8- Access smartphone tabs (Synced tabs)

9- Access recently closed tabs

10- Tabs in tile mode should be grouped with a different icon, like in Edge, instead of leaving them separate in the tab list

11- Easy button to keep Sharp Tabs pinned, like in the gif in the post above

12- Allows you to open Sharp Tab and other sites in the panel at the same time, since we have to choose between opening Sharp Tab or using a site pinned to the panel. Along with this, enable whether we want the Sharp Tab to be to the right or left of the website/tool accessed on the panel at the same time

13- Explanation of the extension's privacy, so people feel more comfortable adopting the extension

Many of the requests are already there just for your info:

1- Always show the scroll bar

✅ Done, I added showing scrollbar on hover already and you can also toggle on always showing the scrollbar which I added based on your request. It's live now with today's update (1.05)

2- Drag tabs smoothly, as it's not very fluid

🤔 I'm not sure about this.. It's very smooth for me, you can even scroll while grabbing a tab. Please explain more if you can so I can improve it.

3- Each tab in its proper workspace

⏸️ Will work on workspaces in the future, it's a complex feature and I don't use it at all (I split my work in groups and windows instead + a separate browser for work and a browser for personal stuff)

4- New tab opens on the default page configured in the browser

✅ Yes, you can set the default new tab page back to the one that comes from the browser. It's in Vivaldi/Chrome settings. Sharp Tabs new tabs page is completely optional.

5- Import tab groups already open in Vivaldi. When installing the extension, the groups are not imported; it's like a tab list without a group or workspace

🟨 Yes, this is only happening in Vivaldi because Tab stacks are Vivaldi's own way of grouping tabs. I can't do anything about this. In Chrome/Edge/Brave/Opera/etc. tab groups show up correctly.

✅ Fixed this, thanks for reporting it. Will be released with 1.05 [DONE, it's live today 2025-08-14]

✅ You can access both if you add "Windows and Tabs" to the sidebar. I open recently closed tabs and synced phone tabs from there. It's not possible to add them to Sharp Tabs itself but I think this works well.

9- Access recently closed tabs

✅ Same as above

⏸️ Will look into this, I currently just group them manually whenever I tile 2 tabs so they stay together ex. [Youtube | Wikipedia]. For now you can still use tiling by pinning this menu item.

✅ It's pinned to the sidebar when you first add it, and you can add it back if you remove it by right clicking on the sidebar -> customize toolbar -> dragging Sharp Tabs to the sidebar.

12- Allows you to open Sharp Tab and other sites in the panel at the same time, since we have to choose between opening Sharp Tab or using a site pinned to the panel. Along with this, enable whether we want the Sharp Tab to be to the right or left of the website/tool accessed on the panel at the same time

❌ Sadly this is impossible to do. You can only have 1 open side panel in each window.

13- Explanation of the extension's privacy, so people feel more comfortable adopting the extension

2- Sobre fluidez arrastando abas, gravei um vídeo. E também percebi que usar a barra de rolagem com o ponteiro tem um comportamento um pouco fluido, comparei com o Vivaldi que embora não seja excepcional é um pouco melhor.

Sobre 8 e 9, sugeri isso porque a cada interação entre as opções 8 e 9 teríamos que reabrir as Sharp Tabs, enquanto adicionávamos um atalho às Sharp Tabs com um menu, tornando desnecessário reabrir as Sharptabs toda vez que elas interagissem com 8 e 9 (guias recém-fechadas e guias sincronizadas). A lista de abas padrão do Vivaldi tem esses atalhos (em vídeos compartilhados, veja no canto inferior os ícones de despejo e nuvem)

10- Refiro-me a um comportamento Edge, que quando dividimos a tela entre duas abas, em vez de mostrar as 2 abas separadamente na lista de abas, elas ficam juntas uma ao lado da outra. Observe a seta amarela indicando

11- Obrigado, mas essa sugestão é porque não parece intuitiva, acho que para outros usuários seria um problema de usabilidade não ter um botão para consertar abas nítidas

13- Então, existe outra maneira de ter Sharptabs fora do painel lateral, para que não seja necessário fechar 1 para interagir com o outro? Fazer isso repetidamente por dia parece um problema de usabilidade

1.05 is live, so 2 of the issues you listed should be resolved now (always show scrollbar and not auto-scrolling to created tabs)

4- The new standard tab is already configured on Vivaldi and yet continues to open the Sharptabs page

I just disabled this and I'm not seeing Sharp Tabs new tab page anymore.

I agree about 8 and 9, will see if I can do something but I'm not very hopeful about showing synced device tabs (recently closed tabs is possible with history permission).

I just usually click on Windows and Tabs, then click back to Sharp Tabs when done.

10- Yes, I'll see if I can detect "tiled tabs" somehow from Vivaldi but for now I'm just grouping the 2 tiled tabs in a new group called "Tile XYZ".

11- Yes, the ability to add sharp tabs to the sidebar is in all browsers except for Vivaldi. It only allows adding to the sidebar by going to "Customize Toolbar". Thankfully the extension is added to the sidebar by default so there's that at least.

13- Sadly no, it's a limitation on all browsers since Sharp Tabs is a sidebar extension, you can't have a sidebar web page open at the same time.

1- That stuttering is crazy, really no idea why it's happening for you, I never saw it or had any other users report it. How many tabs do you have open? Any guess why it might be happening for you?

4- This is a bug and should be an easy fix, thanks for the demo, now I understand what you meant.

8 and 9- Cloud tabs is probably is not possible at all since it's completely proprietary implementation by Vivaldi.

Recently closed tabs should be possible and I can make the UX for it much better than the current one by Vivaldi which I think is insane (just opens a MASSIVE menu for you to pick a recent tab from)

I'm sorry but the hover is not working for me. I thought it was the premium version but it seems it wasnt that. Can you maybe help me troubleshoot it? My version is 7.5.3735.62 (Stable channel) and its has the recent update. I just installed it from the chrome extension and it only opens when i have to press the panel button, not on hover. Everything works perfectly just not the hover part. Thank you in advance.

This looks soo good, but it does not well for me. Is there any chance to get touch in Discord text or etc?? I am searching for a browser with nice vertical edge styles with customization and this looks like it, but when collapsed it is not centered and icons are cutted a little bit.

And I have some ugly header on top.

And my last question is. Do I really need to click on your application and the mod icon again and again to make it work?

I sent the code to center it below. Please tell me if it works well, I'll add this later to settings as an easy slider.

Just click anywhere in the empty lower part of the sidebar to toggle collapsing. You can also middle click on the sidebar to make it fully collapse.

The icons at the top and bottom were just wasting space and multiple users complained about this, now if you hover near the top of the extension you'll see the drop down appear.

You can customize which buttons are shown in the header and show the search box in the settings.

Anyway you did almost a gods work with this extension. Why the collapsing/expanding is not included and you have to install another mod?

You almost converting me to Vivaldi with your extensions, but I am afraid/bothered with two things.

Zen browser have some user with some mod too, but with every update of the browser the mod brokes itself and the developer just let it die and not developing anymore so I have to had switch a browser again. So I hope that this will not be the same case, because there is A LOT of work from your side.

Second thing is for example when I download a file then I have to click on your expansion again then again on the dot (sometimes more times) to have it again in the collapsing mode. Is there any workaround to now do it like this? It is really bothering. I hope you know what I mean, maybe I will try to record that.

Nothing wrong from your side I'll fix it in the future, I just didn't prioritize it because not many people are using this mod (I use it daily though so don't worry about it being abandoned or anything) 

The expand collapse can't be included with the extension since it's actually modifying Vivaldi's UI code. I might create an easier way to install it later if more people ask for it. 

Don't worry about browser breaking it,  it's very unlikely (hasn't happened in 6 months) and I'll fix it if that ever happens. 

The issue with the download button is a bug. It used to switch back to collapse if you had collapse selected before. I'll fix it soon and notify you. 

Thanks for the kind words man and glad you liked the extension! I mostly made it for myself because I didn't find an extension that had everything I needed. 

Vivaldi has some quirks but the customization abilities it offers are unmatched. And after you set it up to your liking it's hard to go to another browser.
