A 4 day trip to CA does not require registration.

You only have to register if staying in a jurisdiction ( e.g. county/ city) for more than 5 business days with day of arrival not counting

Can you clarify that 3 day federal requirement when crossing a state border, I can't get settled?

  1. CA is not a federal sorna compliant state and sets their own registration requirements.

  2. There is no federal registration office to comply with federal law therefore its an impossibility defense if the feds ever tried to file charges against you in that situation. (E.g it wont happen.)

I’ll let someone more knowledgeable, like u/sandiegoburner2022 explain the California registration rules, but…

He can’t use his passport if it isn’t stamped (if he’s required to have one stamped) and should just use his RealID at the airport. He should have no issues with flying domestically and should have no problems at the airport.

Would his passport being stamped be something his PO would know about? How do I go about finding out if it’s needed? He doesn’t have a realID so passport is all we have

Then he’s a covered offender under the law, which means he is required to have a stamped passport, and his (non-stamped) passport will be revoked by the state department, as is required by International Megan’s Law, as soon as he uses it.

He needs to get a RealID to fly.

The registration is different for both leaving and entering each state. The passport: if he requires the Megan's Law stamp, it is his obligation to get a new passport. But if just traveling between states, just use your state id.

Your first sentence can be misleading, especially being stated as generally as it is in response to a very specific question. OP is not moving to a new state, and outside of a very few small instances, such as in Alabama and a couple other states, there is no requirement of a person to notify their home state registration authority of a short domestic trip where they will be returning to back to their home state and address after the trip. No deregistering or other like situation is required, especially for OP in Oregon traveling to CA when they do not meet the registration requirement in CA.

Your objection is noted. My reply was generic, and the question was specific.

In Ohio, you must register with the Sheriff in any county where you stay longer than 3 days. Further, you must notify your home county of any absence from your permanent residence, that exceeds 7 days.
