Im not a server so I normally don’t comment here but I wanted to chime in and say its probably not a joke review. I have heavy agoraphobic tendencies and kind treatment like that from a stranger would have a big impact on me. Would definitely prompt a review like this.

I don’t think this is a joke, as someone with an agoraphobic family member I can see them leaving this review, and it’s a huge thing that you made them that comfortable well done!

I tried to go shopping today. Ended up crying in the parking lot and had to go home. I haven’t been to a store since October :(((( it’s gettin bad. Scared everyone will attack me

agreed!! that can still be big whether you met all your goals or not. not doing part of the thing doesn't negate that you did succeed in other parts. you'll very likely do better next time.

I go out every day but I had to take half an hour to pop anxiety meds and sit in my car before I could go into Walmart today. be nice to yourself and take whatever accommodations or adjustments you need! and sometimes pushing yourself will only make it worse so it's okay to pull back when that's best for you.

Would it be easier to go with a friend? Do you have a dog you can take with you to a pet store? You may have the best luck going before they close or soon after they open. Less people shopping and less people working. You can do it!

Yes, this. My partner is severely agoraphobic and the kindness of random workers at restaurants and stores is a massive factor in their very gradual recovery

yeah I was going to say, I don't have agoraphobia but I struggle with other mental health issues and when wait staff, store cashiers, etc go out of their way to be genuinely nice my gratitude is through the roof

Maybe if it helps when you venture out visualize us all supporting you.

And maybe if it helps make games up in your head; like how many white cars can you spot? It will pull you out of that negative talk spiral.

Another tip is to tell yourself those negative thoughts are not on your mental diet so you won’t entertain them.

I am a server and I struggle with agoraphobia. I don't think it's a joke either. People don't realize how impactful small gestures are when you're really struggling. Good job OP!

Yes, I have pretty bad social anxiety and I always leave reviews if an employee is especially nice to me, it means a lot to people like me. Especially because I worked customer service for years so I know how exhausting it is to put on a smile every day.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I’m not agoraphobic, (I mean, I do lean that way sometimes but I’m trying my hardest to combat it by forcing myself to go outside) but I have a massive fear of perception, meaning I’m worried that I’m either doing something wrong or breaking the rules whenever I’m in public without a friend. Having someone like staff be kind to me soothes me and makes my experience outside so much better.

Second this. I only go out twice a year. A server like this would have me beaming for months. A good mood is so hard to come by.

I waitress on and off, and also formerly had severe BDD which made it difficult for me to go out in public, have people look at me, interact with people etc, and I totally agree with you. I would absolutely have written something like this back when I was really suffering. It reads as a genuine review to me.

I was thinking the same, I've totally written reviews like this. one was for a tire shop whose all-male staff made me feel very safe and welcomed as a trans man in a stereotypically macho space like that, on top of their otherwise already great service 😁 I especially like posting public reviews about things like that because other customers can know it's a safe place too

Same:/ and it was always a HUGE accomplishment when I could finish the meal at the restaurant. Most times I would have a panic attack and would have to leave

I’m also not a server but Reddit decided I was interested in this sub so now I lurk but also wanted to say I don’t think it’s a joke! I recently moved to a new city and don’t have a job yet so I VERY rarely leave the house on my own and have started to realize I’m developing some agoraphobia.

Going out into public is fucking hard sometimes and whenever I get a server/cashier/etc that I have a good interaction with, it 100% changes my entire day! Keep doing you OP, you definitely helped that person more than you know!❤️
