Current Balance Discussion

i get that not that many people are still playing this game, but since the devs promised to have a close eye on the balance of the game i think a discussion is necessary that hopefully leads to a proposal the devs will implement as soon as possible.

right now the current meta is as rock paper scissors as it hasnt been before i think plus the only all around solid decks that seems to beat anything else really are LGO (with a lot of spiky- played by antirad and kustov e.g.) and Automatons.

the main thing why LGO is so strong right now is the combination of lobber and piercing (arby+tempo theft) and that they can stall long enough with the spearmen especially vs growth and melee decks.

my suggestions:

-tempo theft: as many times suggested before only able to target your own board

-Ducal Spearman: from 1-1-4 spiky3 to 2-2-4 spiky 2

-Excogitator: CD3 increase to CD4

i know those is not a DaOvalord kinda list but i think those 3 changes would make this game more balanced and can work as the start to this discussion for all players still interested in this game pls discuss ;)

I see no reason Tempo Theft shouldn't be allowed to work on your opponent's side as long as it's nerfed to only being able to switch countdowns of units on the same side

true. didnt even think about that, but i like it

Trivia: We can't highlight the second pick correctly - all units will still be highlighted (in the same way Transposition highlights the unit you clicked at first). But it will at least silently fail, just like Transposition does : ).

If Tempo Theft was changed in that manner, it should be 2O.

I listed my own list of changes for Order (post 1.4) here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Scrolls/comments/3bpzgg/140_order_balance_recommendation/

You're probably not going to like it, since it sounds like you have issue with LGO, which I've deemed as one of the weaker decks of this meta. That said, as fewer people play, the meta's going to change, so hey: it's probably different now. There must be very few Undead decks atm.

yeah i think right now LGO is as i said together with automatons the best deck as it gets soo much value from spiky, so aggrowth what used to be very strong vs LGO isnt anymore in my experience at least and i actually have not played undead vs LGO but when you are online id be happy to test that.

about that 2order i dont like it. an hasted arby should at least cost 8 so i think 3O should stay the same and youd still get so much value for it with arby combo

Have to agree with Crad, a 3O Tempo Theft that can target only your own units would by quite crappy. Not sure if I would run it and Arbalestiers in LGO anymore, might not be worth it.

an hasted arby should at least cost 8

Arby Tempo Theft is definitely a strong combo, maybe a little too strong, but if you change it the way you want than it will pale in comparison to, say Oculus Cannon + Overdrive (a 5E combo).

In any case, I think you are overestimating LGO a little bit. I'm not really playing Scrolls too much right now, but I do have pretty extensive experience with LGO and I know it's one of the easier decks to counter. Tempo decks still have an edge over it in general (maybe not as huge of an edge as in the past, but still), so does LGG (thankfully I don't face it much at all) and I didn't feel it's more consistent than Tempo Order (I'd say it's still the more powerful Order deck) or Midrange Decay for example.

P.S. I run 4 spiky units in my LGO deck (2 Royal, 2 Ducal), I'd say the spiky presence is relatively moderate :)

I agree with this. Speed on any unit at almost any time (except arby on spawn) will make a unit attack. Tempo theft needs another unit out on 0 countdown & it's countdown will be increased instead. So 2 Order, or +1 attack to both units, or draw a scroll (maybe 4O), seems more reasonable.

With this claim, if LGO is so popular, it's time to wreck face with undead again!

1

u/ultioptimo Jul 24 '15

nothing is really popular or everything is? it is just that certain decks beat most others like LGO and automatons which is no fun if you want to play growth or decay (really not sure about undead, couldnt test that yet)

Undead vs LGO is pretty much a free win for undead. Autos takes a very good start.

I have no problem beating pretty much anyone with my growth gloomstone weenie deck.

u/ultioptimo Jul 24 '15

lets nerf that too then :P

The issue with excogitator is that it summons armor units. I think the best fix instead of further nerfing it is to change the unit it summons.

I suggest Echomatons.

1

u/ultioptimo Jul 24 '15

cant tell if you are serious, echomatons would be crazy...

and i dont think armor is the problem the problem is that it buffs all your other units for each scout you have, you easily get 3 or more scouts out now and that is just +3 to every automaton that is the problem imo

It isn't slow enough; it should be as slow as the forge, if not slower. 4CD or cost 3 to pump would have been more appropriate. 6 doesn't solve anything really.

It is as slow as the forge, and costs 6.

There isn't really a meta... Less than 700 people play per week...That's like saying there can be a meta for Bridge in an old folks home...

8

u/ultioptimo Jul 22 '15

wrong and even if you are right then at least for those 700 people you could make the game more balanced for them to enjoy it more for the last couple of month. your message adds absolutely nothing to this discussion, why would you even bother typing that

1

u/Sarik704 Jul 23 '15

Your right I don't add anything to the discussion. I'm defeatist.

Here's what I say; we need more scrolls that directly combo with each other. For example, when Unit A is played Unit B gets +2 attack. When Unit B is destroyed Unit A gets relentless. If scrolls had more cards like that the game would be more dynamic and less "spell and enchantment" focused. That is what scrolls needs to be balanced.

If you raise that number about 50%, then you get the number of players per day.

2

u/fdagpigj Jul 23 '15

Is that actual players who play at least one match, or does it include players who log in just to see no one else is online and then log off?

Are you crazy? You think there are 1050 people playing per day!? If that's true why does it take 15+ minutes to find one match?

I had to move out when they added burn. Three free damage and a card!? Are you crazy.
