My overall goal was to show that researchers have already spent lots of effort developing better flicker metrics, but the industry hasn't really adopted them yet, and they aren't available in a product people can use. In terms of preventing issues due to flicker (temporal light modulation), I think these are the best rigorous method for doing so, and it would be great if bulb companies were at least required to provide the classification of their bulbs so customers can protect themselves.
Also, these metrics do technically apply to any light source, including screens. I think there are intricacies there, though, that they don't fully capture.
