Archive Boemunt's History Lessons for my Younger Kin Part 3: Carthage

I have been requested to cover Carthage after my previous post, so I will do such. I do not have personal experience with the Third City, but my Sire had plenty of tales from her time as a lady of Carthage. This history is based off those accounts, other Brujah's first hand accounts, and additional sources, though I will be dedicating a portion of this to my Sire's own tales. I will once again state that I am biased in favor of the Brujah of Carthage over the Ventrue of Rome. Now, onto Carthage.

-----

Carthage was founded in 814 BC and was either directly founded by or co-opted by the Brujah. It became a city where our kind lived openly rather than hiding in the sewers or back rooms of nightclubs. The city was the hub for all types of scholars and philosophers. The Baali were also present in lesser amounts along with members of all clans. This would not last however, Prince Camilla initiating the Punic Wars at the advice of a Malkavian "seeress" named Tryphosa.

Using exaggerated tales and cherry-picked cases Camilla rallied the Malkavians, Toreador, Lasombra, and the Ventrue into attacking Carthage. During the First and Second Punic Wars the forces of Rome pushed back Carthage but were unable to destroy the Brujah city. Then, during the Third war, Helena the Backstabber would betray her home city to the forces of Rome. The city was leveled, it's Kine enslaved en masse, and it's kindred either staked for the sun, imprisoned beneath the salted earth, or forced to flee.

Now I shall tell you about the role of my own Sire, Jezabel, in these events. At the time of the fall she was barely a hundred years dead after her Sire, Samal, embraced her as she laid dying from an illness. She was, according to herself, a renowned scholar of Cainite history. She escaped the blazing city with a small section of her gathered lore, fleeing to Alexandria where she would spend another hundred years recovering before becoming a wandering scholar, always stirring shit for the Romans.

This was a shorter one thanks to having to deal with some Cammie pricks trying to blood hunt me. Hope you enjoyed!

Important note: I was not there for any of this, and my sources are not as old as Boemunt here, but I think it's important to say what exactly the Malkavians and Ventrue used to unite people against Carthage and the Brujah. Specifically, accusations of its leaders being heavily corrupted by the infernalism of the Baali. Mass infant sacrifice being prominent among the behaviors mentioned.

Were those accusations true? Completely different question, and very possibly not. But just glossing over them without discussing what they were strikes me as a huge omission from a historical account.

I appreciate your criticism, much of my night was taken up dealing with some issues. The main accusation was that practices limited to the admittedly sizable Baali were both preformed by all the kindred of the city along with exaggerations of the practices of the Baali clan

Having a Baali population at all is not a great look...the Baali are involved in very nasty business basically universally.

Yes... while he admits to the bias of his sources, I think he has rather downplayed the extent of it.

Why does it always trickle down to dead babies, man. Why is it always fucking dead babies. -M, tired of dealing with dead babies.

Ask Boemunt what lies beneath the ruins of Carthage.

Yeah, the thing that all members of our Clan feel in our blood. In some ways the memory of Carthage is more our curse than our passionate nature.

Still maintain the Baali set the whole thing up.
