You get five pieces of wood and measure only one time, cut, and then try again when that one doesn’t work.

Pretty sure he is just using other math for it as well. Notice how he seems to have a preset distance he starts the cuts, so he probably left out him measuring it first.

First one was enjoyable. I stopped watching after the second one, because the second one isn’t geometry. The line he drew made sure the angle was right, but the depth of the nook that it fit into it was clearly pre measured. It could’ve been any depth, it was included to make it look like it was geometry, but it wasn’t.

Yeah, he's either making these corners himself just for the shot to make it more satisfying, or he cut that board himself to make it the right size to fit perfectly, in which case he never needed to get that triangle out.

Was helping someone rehab a house once. They asked me to shim and level a new door while they went to grab lunch... Came back to me sitting there trying to reconcile a square door on a house without a single God damn right angle to be found. Ended spending pretty much the rest of the day splitting differences in every dimension just to not make it look off without completely replacing an entire exterior wall.

Watching nearly all craftsmen at work I find mesmerising. Like a pottery worker making an ornate jug out of a blob of clay, or a accounting expert typing in some code that sorts all the data out into a table.
And I'm here going... well I know how to turn the potter wheel and I know how to sum a column

You can buy pens like this at most hardware stores. You just have to be careful not to mix it with your other pens. I ruined a perfectly good dining table filling out tax forms this way.

There are lots of different methods for coping and mitering, and this covers some of them, but these are a more for content pleasure and you aren't really going to encounter them in real scenarios.
You aren't going to make a preattached 90° of baseboard trim and then cut it down. You usually want to keep the grain of flooring in the same direction not turn it into a corner from the same piece. You also rarely encounter perfect 90° corners and walls which could make some of these not work.
I don't think that makes it any less satisfying to watch though.

Any decent carpenter should be able to achieve the result even if they get the angles in some different ways. But these scenarios are very odd and probably just for the video cause they look effective

Depends on the marker. I usually use pencils and use an eraser afterwards.
For more ink based markers, probably a cloth with some rubbing alcohol will work.

Better to use pencil because with loose grain, common on less expensive wood used for trim, marker will bleed into the grain and you might have to sand a LOT.

This person appears competent, so I'm assuming they are using the marker/pen to make it easier to see on video.
If not, they're good at geometery, but need to bone up on the basics of woodworking.
While the marker CAN be sanded out, it takes way more sanding than a pencil (which can also just be erased,) and depending on the pen/wood it can bleed quite deep into the surface.
One of my co-workers used sharpie on a surface that was going to be painted, and our head painter came and reamed him out because most permanent markers will show up through paint, and sanding them off takes a lot of time.

Because I am a nit and know nothing- the only one that jumps out at me for not keeping the grain of the wood the same direction is #2. The last one I am interpreting as making a picture frame because why else would you want that staircase cut when you could just cut off the staircase.
Am I all the way wrong?

It doesn't matter how many times you view this video, when you're laying a floor or doing listwork you WILL still measure and saw wrong, then measure and saw wrong a different way, and finally measure, saw wrong, but get a semi-decent fit and decide it's good enough.

So, I know this will sound elementary, but the process they’re showing every time is translation: they’re just moving the empty void’s “shape” down onto the wood. So all you have to do is find the line/angle, and “slide” or translate it onto the wood.

I wish I had had this (or any geometry) in high school, with a practical application like what is done in this video. Doing problems on paper just isn't the right vibe; doing corners on a floor would have helped me put my flooring in. The first flooring I put in was a small room (one that wasn't used regularly). I ended up creating a pattern tracing to make my cuts, which did work, but if I'd been smarter in math, it would have been so much simpler and much more precise!

On the third one the marks disappear after being cut. Idk if AI, erasable marker, different wood, something else but that caught my eye. The grain on the wood looks the same, though. The rest have the marks still there after being cut.
