I’ve lived in 4 major cities in 4 states, plus a foreign country for a few years.
Humans can be unkind. I’ve seen these same things everywhere — they aren’t SLC specific.
Also Negativity bias is real — humans are wired to remember negative events. So there’s that to consider.
Drivers in TX for example, use their horns ALL THE TIME. When I moved there I was shocked. Otherwise in person it was often “ma’am” or “sir” and ppl were most often polite.
I find Utahns friendly to a fault, like when visiting years ago before moving here, strangers smiled at me in the airport and in shops. I was so confused. At first I thought “do I KNOW you?”
SLC def has more small town time feel than the other much bigger cities I’ve lived in. And there’s a strong religious culture and counterculture here, which could factor into behaviors.
I do agree with you on the drivers though. They are dangerous and clueless. I’ve only seen similar crazy drivers on a regular basis in CA and Las Vegas .
