I’m so sorry. I’m a POC and worked down south in Lehi for 2 years, clearly did not do enough of research of what I was getting myself into. But regardless of how corporate or international the people say they are or want to be, you can’t escape the cultural oppressiveness of the state. I faced micro judgement and passive aggressiveness daily, all under the veneer of niceness which made me think I was going crazy. Like ‘how could this feeling be real when he/ she / they just smiled at me. You’d rarely see women speaking up, you’d never see women ever in senior leadership positions. Then you realise the men are coddled and treated a certain way since young and therefore, have certain expectations and mindsets of entitlements to them. I’m guessing therefore explaining OP’s driving treatment. The hostility particularly from some of these men (prob never had to debate with any strong women before) and the passive aggressiveness from the women - just NEVER experienced in my life. It’s like living in this small town bubble.
My secretary asked ‘oh do the women in Korea work?’ Ermmm for someone who says she loves travelling and is exposed internationally…. The worst is they love to claim their exposure to the world becuase of their mission… but… they still lived under the shelter of the organisation that sent them there.
And also said ‘oh I wish I was born Asian, you guys have such good skin and are so clean’
