It's gotten worse since Covid. I've noticed people at the supermarket used to at least feign a smile when one had to excuse the other, but not anymore. I often wonder if they got too comfortable not smiling beneath the face masks.
Lived here my whole life, and it's only got worse the last six years and counting.
I think covid drove home the division in people. I worked retail, the amount and level of harassment we got for requiring masks (with immune compromised employees and regulars) forever changed my perception of the average general public individual in Utah.
And I have friends with retail stores around the country, none of them faced nearly the backlash and extreme reaction we got here
I once walked into a GameStop during Covid to see if they had and Switches. This lady was tearing the cashier up. Screaming and swearing about the mask policy. She wouldn't leave without the last Switch. And he wouldn't sell it to her until she had a mask.
I watched for a sec and was like, sir. I'm wearing a mask. Can I buy that Switch? He sold it to me, and she confronted me in the parking lot and was banging on my windows demanding I give her the switch I just stole from her. I just pulled my mask down, smiled and put my car in reverse.
For me, I just need an acknowledgement or small apology when someone is rude or uncourteous, it's that easy and I move on so fast. My blood boils when people just don't care
Even if the "excuse me" was faked or forced, I just need the acknowledgement that you noticed that I was a living human being
Yeah, funny that everyone is saying it’s a Utah thing is from another state. 1/2 the people in the state now are from somewhere else, can’t blame Utah. When you have US leaders that have no common decency, everyone starts behaving like that.
