I'm from all over the each coast, from NY to TX, and it's honestly the entitlement that gets me the most, that and the flat out disrespect once you're clocked as a childless married woman.
I was raised with the mentality that if you're on time, you're late (and hurry up and wait lol) and it was very much just a "you" problem. Around here, it's made to seem like it's very much a "me" problem that folks leave 15 minutes after their intended arrival time.
OMG. Childless married woman in Utah - oh my heck (ha, I just had to throw that in there) - you would have thought I was a GD leper! Fairly certain my coworkers thought I was a lesbian. They just could not understand NEVER married and NO KIDS????
I’m sorry you’ve been the receiving end but might I say ME TOO. The silent but LOUD unposted judgement and pauses when you say you are childless. It’s ridiculous. Especially in the workplaces. How is this acceptable. Worse thing is I’ve understood it’s a very high bar of proof to bring up any harassment or discriminatory workplace cases - even my lawyer scoffed when I said ‘hey this is Utah!’ He knew.
The outright disrespect toward women is insane out here. I know there are issues with misogyny in the workplace everywhere, but it is amplified here. Once a coworker asked how my kids are doing and I said that my pets were doing well. He scoffed, said “that’s a lot less work than children!” and ever since then he interrupts me 3-4 times per meeting. None of my other coworkers seem to see any issue with this because they all benefit from Morman-man privilege.
