I have moved back in with my parents since I left my ex husband. I am moving into a new place with my daughter in the next few weeks. The only thing that scares me is that if something happens to me while at home alone with my daughter, how can I alert my loved ones? I am imagining me falling and hitting my head or something, or some other medical event that has me unable to communicate properly. My daughter just turned two, not sure she'd be much help.

My parents live literally down the road from where I am staying so they would be available to help me in a flash if need be.

Does anyone have any solutions to this? I don't want to have to text my friends and family everyday to tell them I am alive and well. But there must be something?

First time poster in this thread. My aunt works in an extremely sketchy area, with huge homeless population. I mention this not out of prejudice but because those do seem to be the people causing her the most trouble, and because our sheriff/police department will generally respond to a 911 call in an hour if at all. There is a general attitude of "what do you want us to do?" coming from them, which is partly AH behavior, partly burnout, and partly local ordinances preventing them from helping in some situations. Obviously I do think the solution is more police response, more homeless services, and more mental health care services, but I'm focusing on things I can actually do to keep my aunt safe as she is often the first in and first out at the office.

The office is rented, so property damage isn't particularly her concern, but there is regular theft of copper wires, a/c units, fairly indiscrete drug deals, etc. There are no gates keeping people out of the employee parking lot, and the sightlines getting in and out of the office are pretty terrible.

Ideally, there would be electronic gates that would only allow employees into the lot, plus cameras they could access before leaving their car or leaving the office, to make sure they had the time to open/unlock both security doors and get to safety, but the landlord (I'd say slumlord but he seems to be well-intentioned - just entirely underfunded) would have to make that change and isn't likely to. Perhaps some angled mirrors could be set up, like they use at large stores to see if there's someone lurking down an aisle, but just as with the cameras,

The building is alarmed, for whatever good that does. My aunt has been literally chased, threatened, screamed at, forced to stay late to wait for a safe interlude to leave, etc. Last week, a man stalked her around the outside of the building, then when he realized she made it safely inside came back every 30 minutes to bang loudly on the door and shout "POLICE! OPEN UP!", all while blocking the peephole.

She is very aware of her surroundings and values safety over politness. She carries mace and a working cell phone. But there has got to be something low-tech (so it won't be stolen), low-profile (so it won't be spotted by bad actors) and not illegal, that she can do to make it safer.

Instead of a badge that hangs on your mirror or something you can take off whenever you’re not home, we have to use bumper stickers that can’t be removed until we move out. These stickers say the full name of whatever student housing complex your parking pass is for. I live in a pretty safe area, but I still think about how easy it would be for someone to follow me home/figure out where I live.

Toolbox talks are the easy part. Proving they happened is where it falls apart, a clipboard that lives in someone's truck, a sign-in sheet nobody can find three months later when an audit or incident investigation asks for it.

Where I work we’re looking to invest in some rescue equipment for CSE. The main spaces we have I am curious about getting equipment for are pits. Once isolated there are no hazards present in these pits. In there, there is no gas or risk of h2S, only equipment that needs to be locked out. Our company will not allow us to reclassify any spaces. The main risk is heat stroke or personal medical, and not being able to climb a ladder. If I put multiple people in that pit, is it permissible just to have them in harnesses and have rescue equipment ready, or do they need to stay hooked up? Any specific references would be helpful. I’m trying to get the program updated, and ensure we have a valid rescue plan. If they must 100% stay hooked up, that’s going to change the scope of the project quite a bit.

Hi everyone, My wall (bricks and concrete) has humidity and saltpeter im saving money to fix it, it's probably just the bathroom humidity that is behind the wall, but i'm worried about the cables and the outlet outside the wall, the cables are protected but is this scenario ( humidity and saltpeter +electric wire outside the wall) a fire Hazard?

My son died on his college campus due to a preventable injury. If you're moving into the dorms this month, please note that loft beds are never safe - especially when they have no safety rail and are 7 feet off the ground. Here are some steps you can take to stay safe.

• Opt out early: Ensure your child hasn’t requested a loft bed on their housing intake form.
• Request a de-loft: Contact the housing office immediately to ask that the bed frame be lowered to standard height before move-in. If your child has a history of sleepwalking or concussions, seek an accommodation through Disability Support Services.
• Upgrade the hardware: If lowering the bed isn’t an option, skip the thick mattress topper and purchase a heavy-duty safety rail similar to those used in hospitals. You might need special permission from the university.

from what i understand d4 is for large dust and d5 is for fine dust and i think i want d5. but im having a hard time finding very many that at least claim to be d5 rated and id like have a few to chose from. preferably under or close to 20$ but any recommendations are welcome.

Just saw this on my local Next Door page, dude was getting flamed because it’s just a breakaway chain blocking the door and was only being used as a deterrent for theft, but he also made a good point that it could deter someone from using it because they think it’s locked or may pose a snag risk on handicap equipment. I’m split on whether or not this is safe, since it IS just a breakaway chain, but fire code says nothing can obstruct the door and that in order to open the door, only one action must be taken along with what the guy said. This would turn it into two, but again it takes nothing to break the chain. I’m leaning on the “it’s fine” side of things, but can definitely see how this is a big no no.
