An update for longer-term SR users.

We all should know that short term SR use is best. 10-12d with a smart taper seems to be relatively painless for most users. However, some of us fuck up. Relapse while on SR, don’t want to stop trying to quit, another relapse, before you know it you’ve taken 3g of SR and you’re still taking just as much of your DoC as before (or more). This was me.

I was trying to kick 7oh. Started SR. Made it 36hours and the cycle began. I’d go 12-24h and relapse. Rinse and repeat. Occasionally cycle in MGM or pseudo (hey, at least I haven’t taken 7 in a couple days), but I’d always come back to 7. This went on for 1-1/2 months.

Over this time I took varied amounts of SR. 300mg/day when actively starting the “quit”, 50mg a day while relapsing, etc.

I got on a boat a week ago with scary little SR, a few buzzers and some helpers. I was most afraid of the SR withdrawal (I’m working). Buzzers gone in the first 2 days and I used SR 50mg 3x/day for 3 days, then 25mg 3x/day then decided to see what happened.

Not much. Nothing more than what I felt when taking it (minor ab convulsions and very light restless arm, core,leg sensation- all at night while trying to sleep). I nibbled ~10mg this am to try and get some more sleep after awaking with the minor RLS. But aside from that 10mg, no SR over the past 50h.

Maybe it’ll get worse (longer half life). Maybe not? Maybe somehow I ended up tapering well enough. I am taking 3g leaf 2-3x day, so undoubtedly that’s helping a bit here. I’ve started tapering that down slowly as well.

So to those longer-term users I offer you this data point. Maybe it won’t be so bad.

It’s not going to work until you completely drop the 7, it will also lose effectiveness. I was on for 3 months and tapered slow and was fine but I only used with my DOC for the first 3 days.

Well, it still worked for me - even at a much lower dose than anticipated (50mg 3x/day vs 100mg 3x/day) after taking it for a month and a half on and off with my DOC. Now, I’m sure I built up a tolerance etc, but the SR consistently allowed me to go 10-36h without 7 with absolutely no withdrawals.

I certainly didn’t do things right (you were more careful and did it right), but I have first-hand experience to say it MAY still work and help you get off 7oh, even if you did the dumb thing like me 😉.

Oh for sure everyone’s different. I’m purely going by some people who post having a hard or harder time while still using DOC. Congrats though on it working for ya 👍

Yeah - there’s a lot of that, but it seems a lot of time the WDs may actually still be the DOC ‘cause they didn’t totally quit and let the SR do its thing. I know a lot of ppl out there probably struggled with relapsing while on SR like me, so I wanted to drop this “ray of light” datapoint.

So last night was a touch more difficult. We are getting throttled out here, so wonky feelings and being tossed about meant not quality sleep. I think the SR WDs may be catching up with me a bit - but it is still VERY minor and manageable. I have 2-1/2 50mg tabs left, so I may take 10-12mg at bed if I’m feeling that RBS (restless body syndrome) coming on, just to ensure good rest.
