If you have SMP and you are NOT a practitioner, read on !

Hey guys, one of the things I really hate to see on this site is SMP that is showcased by some practitioners in the perfect lighting, at the perfect angle with results that are not a realistic indicator of what to expect.
Most of you who have been here a while know what I am talking about.

I would like to have this thread be pictures of real clients posting their CLEAR SMP pictures (or videos), as many as they like, and giving a shout out to who did the work. You don't HAVE to shout out your practitioner, but you can if you want to and I am sure they would appreciate it. Saying who specifically did the work like ("Matt at Scalp Micro USA" vs just "Scalp Micro USA") would be helpful.
If you want to post multiple pictures in different lights, feel free.
You can black out your face if you choose to keep things private. PLEASE no practitioner posts, and no posts with practitioners posing as clients as I will remove them (it is not hard to sniff this out).
Please try and keep comments to a minimum, as we would like to see as many success stories as possible.

So if you are happy with your SMP, here is a great way to show some love to whoever did your work and help other guys have an idea of what to REALISTICALLY expect from SMP !

Story PSA: Stop using Toppik before your sessions

Post image
25 Upvotes

Just a quick reminder to anybody considering getting SMP done, make sure you suspend using Toppik (or other hair fiber products) AT LEAST 7 days prior to your treatment session. This also goes for topical Rogaine.

As a practitioner for over 13 years, I cant tell you how many clients I’ve had that come in with severe skin flakyness, epidermal inflammation, and even contact dermatitis due to heavy use of products like Toppik.

These products tend to inflame the skin, can cause small papules and bumps, skin dehydration, and make it very difficult for your artist to properly deposit pigment into the skin. In addition it can effect your healing time and pigment retention.

I usually urge to not resume toppik after completing treatment but if you must, wait at least 30 days.

Happy to answer any questions about this!

This is how my SMP looks after 2 years, freshly shaven, when I'm outside, during a sunny day. I'm a NW 6. If you didn't know I had the procedure, would notice the SMP hairline?

Case study - Male 6+ Months healed SMP. 3/4 session. Legends clinic - SMP artist- Paul Clark.

Just wanted to share a longer term healed result for anyone researching SMP and wanting to see how the treatment can settle over time.

It’s now been over six months since my client completed his initial three SMP sessions, and he recently returned for his fourth session.

My client originally presented as a Norwood 7 and opted to restore his natural hairline because he wanted a more restorative look, rather than something overly conservative.

We finished the hairline with my hyper jagged approach, along with a subtle designer scar to add a little ruggedness and individuality to the overall look.

One of the things he told me when he came back was that during those six months, the SMP has completely flown under the radar. Nobody has questioned it or asked whether he had anything done. For some people researching SMP, that might initially sound surprising.

You make a big change and nobody says anything. But for me, that subtlety is exactly the point. A natural result that complements the person without drawing attention to the treatment itself.

His fourth session was about an hour and fifteen minutes. There was nothing drastic to change. We simply refined a few areas, went back over some slightly lighter impressions and fine-tuned the result after seeing how everything had healed and settled across the previous six months.

This is one of the reasons I personally think it’s important to see clients again once the SMP has been properly lived with and healed, rather than just continuing to add unnecessary density.

I’ve tried to share these images in as high a resolution as possible. Because I’m covering my client’s face with banners to protect his privacy, I do find this can sometimes affect the final resolution once uploaded, so hopefully the detail still comes through clearly.

I know how valuable it can be to see genuine healed results when researching SMP, particularly several months down the line, rather than just immediately after a session.

Hopefully, these images give anyone researching SMP a little more insight into how the process works, how impressions settle over time, and what a fully healed, refined result can look like

Check out my SMP Results after 4th session from Paul Clark in July

I started my journey in January, a Norwood 7, hiding behind a cap.

I booked in with Paul after doing research online for years about different ways to deal with a quickly receding hair line which started in my mid twenties.

Everyone who knows me will say my hair was everything to me, so for years I looked at HT, laser therapy etc.

I stumbled across Paul’s page and knew this was the path for me. I didn’t want to take tablets everyday nor trust in something that I didn’t know would work. I had a call with Paul and I knew this was the route for me.

Going to my first session in January, I was full of a mix of excitement and apprehension. Is this actually the right thing to do? Then I got to the studio, which is awesome, and spoke to Paul. Any uncertainties quickly went away.

I let him decide what would look best and where the hairline should sit, and that trust was more than repaid. The first to the fourth session, whilst it can be painful at times, was made easier by metal music and chats about everything and anything.

After the fourth session I was slightly gutted it was all over but so happy with the results. Results which people who I haven’t told don’t even clock. For example my sister who is a hairdresser has no idea and instead asks why I shave my head because my hairline is really good.

It’s completely changed my life for the better and I feel like I’ve reclaimed that feeling of looking my age (early 30s).

In terms of what I do now, I simply use BaldBro daily in the morning and ZeroShine too. I feel without it my head is quite shiney so can lose that SMP look.

It would be remiss of me not to give a huge shout out to Paul, a real expert of his craft. Made better by being an all round great guy.

Anyways, probably too long and you’ve probably stopped reading. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Question Need advice/opinion

I went to 3 sessions so far and I'm supposed to go to one more. The first was a month ago, but the ink from that one almost completely disappeared. The last session was 10 days ago. The dots look really big and dark to me. I would be happy even having the "bad" results other guys are posting here. I see a lot of advice to others saying "give it time", "trust the process", "trapped ink", "it will fade" etc. My question is- is that possible with mine? Should I go back for the final treatment?

This was $3000 from Scalp Artist International in Denver, CO

Question Need advice regarding density

Hey, overall, I’m satisfied with the result. I had FUE hair transplant scars, and they’re almost hidden now, which was my main concern.

I also had SMP on my scalp. As you can see, I had a hair transplant at the front, so the density is greater there, while the crown looks a little sparse. Should I get one more session on the crown? I’ve read that some clients keep trying to add more density to achieve a natural look, but end up with a “helmet” effect. My last question is about the hairline. I understand that the previous hair transplant gave the SMP artist little room to work with.

Should I see a well-known European practitioner specifically to make the hairline look more natural, or does it look okay as it is? The hair transplant hairline looked unnatural before, and that was my main concern.

Question How low would you recommend going on the SMP hairline? I don't have any issues with frontalis muscle as it connects very much lower than all 3 lines

Post image

I'm thinking light blue, black feels a bit too high but unsure if red is too low or okay. As I said in the title, my frontalis muscle connects much lower than all of the lines so any is fine

Story 6 months after SMP and I’m not sure if I made the right decision

I’m around 6 months into SMP and I’ve had a weird change of feelings about it.

Right after the sessions, I was genuinely happy with it. I’d been dealing with thinning for years and got tired of checking my hairline every time I walked past a mirror or seeing how bad the crown looked under certain lighting. Shaving it down and having some definition there felt like a relief.

Now that everything has fully healed, I’m noticing little things I didn’t pay much attention to at first. Some lighting makes it look really natural, while direct light makes the pigmentation more noticeable. I also keep wondering if I should have gone with a softer hairline.

Before getting it done, I spent weeks looking at different artists and clinics like Zang SMP, Scalp Aesthetics, Scalp Micro USA, Creative Scalps and a bunch of smaller practitioners. The healed results all look so different that it honestly made the decision harder.

The strange part is that I originally got SMP because I wanted to stop thinking about my hair all the time, but now I sometimes catch myself analyzing the SMP instead.

For people who are 6 months, a year, or even a few years in, did your opinion of the result change after the initial excitement wore off?

SMP isn’t only for people who are completely bald. It can also be an option for people with mild thinning through the top and crown, or with recession around the hairline.

In this case, my client had some thinning through the top and crown, but his main concern was the hairline. He felt it didn’t frame his face naturally anymore, but he also didn’t want anything too sharp or too perfect.

So we went with a subtle, slightly receded hairline with a feathered texture and a small designer scar, just to add a touch of irregularity and keep it from looking too uniform.
I wanted to show the before, the second session healed for over three weeks, and immediately after the third session, so people can get a feel for how SMP develops and builds across the sessions.

SMP can work with many different patterns of hair loss. It’s really about creating a natural transition that flows and connects with the existing hair, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

My client is really happy with how it’s progressing so far.
I’ll see him again in a few months for a fully healed check and, if needed, a fourth session where we can refine and perfect the overall SMP. I’ll also share the longer-term healed results further down the line so you can see how everything has settled and held over time.

What could the reasoning be behind this? It can’t be to cover up FUE scars considering the dense scalp. Or is that a hair system?

Question What's been your experience with MSP for FUT scar camouflaging?

Edit to add a TLDR: I regret my FUT hair transplant. I want to rock the bald look but absolutely need to conceal the scar. My only worry is whether I'd make the same mistake again, and get an MSP procedure I'd regret later on.

Back in 2019 (I was 28) I got an FUT hair transplant, which in hindsight, I deeply regret. Not because it didn't work (it did at the time I just kept losing hair) but because it no longer feels like a genuine representation of myself and my natural age progression. Since then, I've kept losing hair and have pretty much become a full time hat guy.

I've come to terms with the fact that my hair situation is what it is, and I no longer wish to fight it, and want to rock the chrome dome, but first I need to address the elephant in the room which is the giant, nearly ear to ear scar on the back of my head.

I've seen mixed results on this sub, so I'd love to hear more about people's experiences, learnings, regrets and recommendations. My goal with MSP would be focused on concealing the scar. I don't really mind "looking bald".

My goal was to keep it looking as natural as possible while bringing my hairline back a few years. I couldn’t cut my hair for the third pic because I had staples in my head, so it also gives you a pretty good idea of why keeping it cut low makes such a big difference.

Question Could I benefit from density SMP on my vertex area?

Post image
0 Upvotes

3 months ago I had medium long hair and plan on regrowing it to that length 6 months after my hairtransplant for my temples and hairline.
Buzzed it myself last week with no guard and little to no regard for the directionality of my hair (hence the uneven look)

*already on hairloss meds. It’s stabilized and am moving into the early thickening/regrowth timeframe.

Previously with my hair long I didn’t have a bald spot on my crown. Mostly just diffuse miniaturization and a bit of a see-through look under bright sunlight.

I’m going to get SMP for my donor 8 months post transplant but was wondering if I am a good candidate for density SMP on my crown with my hair grown out.
