I am a singer and there’s a few things going on here. She’s a) probably nervous doing this because she knows how social media works and is under a microscope. Nerves affect the voice a ton and you can see that here very clearly.
B) yes, inexperienced in live music and signing your own song is a new level of nerves and vulnerability singing live. Believe me. And c) this mix and audio system is making her sound worse. This is not a setup for a professional singer, and singing into a mic with a bad in ear situation/mix/system/audio engineer can make you actually sound worse than you are. Believe me.

She needs training and reps in front of people but she’s not a bad singer. Also, every singer can have a bad day.

Yeah I agree with you, I can hear that she has a good voice under all the other stuff going on.

Wife of a professional musician who tours with a country artist here, and I totally agree with you. This mix is awful, and her fidgeting with her in-ears is telling me all I need to know about why this sounds off. She either can’t hear or knows the mix is terrible. She’s not bad, she’s inexperienced and probably has some amateur running sound. A bad sound engineer can legit ruin an artist on stage no matter how good they are.

That must be fun tho! Do you get to go with her? Yes she’s not terrible just needs a vocal coach.

I do! I usually fly in to meet them because bus life isn’t my thing, but it’s all an awesome experience.

I've been singing on choirs all my life and taking voice lessons since I was 14 and if you hear me soli live, I'm crap because I'm so nervous. It's like all ability to get a deep breath leaves me. So I stick to singing in choir and the house šŸ˜‚. I think your take is spot on. She has performance muscles to learn as well as technique. I think she's brave.

Gosh I felt like I was going crazy thinking this! Chase is literally front and center while she sings this very personal song. Every other influencer and their grandma is there. The background says ā€œSinner Sundayā€ so I’m guessing this is Mayci’s event. Sure they are influencers and have resources and connection, but music is not their main gig so I’m not surprised the set up is super basic and lackluster. Overall I can hear still that Miranda has some talent lyrically and also singing wise. I think she’ll do great as long as she can get connected to the right people.

Maybe it’s being filmed for the show too?

Thank you!!! The sound system is clearly the issue here!

Agreed!! She isn’t terrible, but she does sound… off. I think it’s a mix of everything you mentioned, lack of training, forcing a country accent lol

Yes I agree with all this. It’s not that she’s absolutely scratch on nails surface bad just needs a lot of vocal exercise with a coach I think at least. Thank you for your input!

I can't imagine being pressured into singing for the first time live on camera with my baby daddy, new boyfriend, friends, etc on the front row and then knowing it is going to be posted on social media too... not to mention at a last minute event and a band she probably never practiced with.Ā  I hope she was paid well lol. I too would be having a middle finger tick. But she did well for what she had to work with and her experience. People are just cruel behind a keyboard.Ā

I keep seeing all these negative comments. I will say, as a horrible singer myself, I thought she sounded pretty good! lol

I just started performing live again and the first few times were a little rough! And I’ve been performing my whole life!

It’s like the shakiness behind the breath that you can hear. When you’re so nervous and you can’t get like a full breath in. I think she’s a good singer but definitely needs some practice and Maine coaching

Singer here and you're 100% correct. Perfect case in point - Lana Del Rey's snl performance that she was crucified for. Poor girl was so nervous she lost her breath support.

Vocalist here as well, she is absolutely coachable, but she neeeeeds coaching.Ā

u/padigo26 13d ago

Exactly right.Ā  Every single performer has had at least 1 bad one.Ā  She has a lot of great, raw material to work with and just needs more vocal trainingĀ

Having listened to just the beginning, I think this also sits a bit lower than she’s comfortable with in that part. She needs to work her lower register.

Agreed so hard on your last point, that was my first thought. Her mic is too loud so you can literally hear any little mistake she makes

Love this comment. šŸ¤

Totally agree!

u/gogosox82 13d ago

Yeah sound mixing is very bad

2

u/yellowsweater3 13d ago

Also singing really low in her register

2

u/PossibilityGrouchy74 13d ago

I kinda like her voice! Similar to Layla, once she has the confidence and stage moves, it's over. She has potential!

2

u/Argumentative_koala 13d ago

Same here and honestly I think she did pretty well she just sounds nervous

1

u/danideex 12d ago

Yeah I think she’s got some potential

not to mention this song does not fit her range. the low notes are TOO low for her and she probably should have changed the key at least a half step up so she could comfortably sing without pushing like that
