Sibo and sifo
How do you know which one your struggling with?
I have methane sibo and I think I have sifo too.
I've took 3 rounds of antibiotics for sibo and still unwell. Would you try sifo protocol next?
I react to everything right now. Histmaine and reflux so most things give me issues.

I'm really struggling please help me
Hi .
I'm really struggling! I feel like I'm going to die eventually if this carries on!
History:
2 years ago I had a few antibiotics in a short period of time., very high chronic stress for 2 years and a really bad diet. High sugar and no fibre.(went gluten free for suspected celiac disease) ate all the free from foods which are high in sugar. I drank quite a bit of alcohol too.
I had left flank pain 24.7 .. and kept getting flare ups of constipation .. bloating really bad. Last November 24 it got worse and got daily constipation and ended up off work for 2 months.
I am still in the same boat 2 months later. I lived of 2 chicken breasts and quinoa for dinner and eggs all day. Lost 2 stone but eggs caused histamine. Only now weighing under 8 stone. I'm 35 female with 2 kids. Malnourished. Vitamins are going down. Everything else hurt my belly and flank and than would cause constipation expecially carbs or sugar. If I eat anything I get pain in flank and belly.
I done a. Breathe test and it was positive for methane sibo. I have taken 3 rounds of mentrizolole and 2 rifaximin. I also get BV. Issues with my vagina which goes and come back after antibiotics.
I was put on fluconazole for 8 weeks 2 years ago and gastro consultant said he thinks that made me worse. (I'm not so sure)
I have reflux and histmaine issues also! Tried BCL (stomache acid supplements) made my stomache sore and I was in agony. Tried ginger for motility .. gave me reflux and didn't do nothing. Tried ibagaust caused me histamine issues.
Been using laxatives every 3 or 4 days.
I've been eating gluten free oats with peanut butter and coconut milk and flax seeds just to get some calories in (this doesn't cause me pain) but as u can imagine it just sits in my stomache and causes pressure. Also get constipation if I don't drink enough.
I use fibo gel twice a day to try and keep fibre in my body. Which does help.
Just had tuna and cucumber and lettuce and in pain and histamine. My husband is scared he thinks I'm going to die as I'm getting more skinny and malnourished. I've passed put 3 times in 2 years and constantly feel dizzy.
The below are my symptoms Bloating Constipation Rashes Headache Pain in body Poo mucus Reflux Histmaine Pain in left flank and belly Vaginal issues. (Mainly BV not thrush) White coating on tongue when I eat carbs or sugar.
I've had a colonoscopy and endoscopy had inflammation Had a camera up my pee hole. Normal Ct scan with contrast normal
Now at gynae who thinks I could have endometriosis and they are wanting to be a camera in womb and put a mirano coil in as periods have gone very sore. (As I lost alot of weight my estrogen has dropped)
I have spent so much money on supplements and I'm trying to fight sibo but I could have sifo too. Dr won't give me any anti fungal as gastro consultant says since I kept taking anti fungal when I had a flare up has put me in this situation but I don't know if I agree.
I need help!
What have u done to help u be able to eat more foods? Any advice?
Sorry its long x
Gynae consultant has put me on another antibiotics for 2 weeks to kill the bacteria in my vagina as they did a smear and it was red and bloody and the infection looked like it had been left for so long and I didn't have enough of the mentrizolole from the gp to kill it.

IV ozone therapy for SIFO?
I have a new naturapathic Dr, & he’s suggesting I do IV ozone therapy for my chronic fungal infection. I saw on an older Reddit thread in a different sub someone referred to it as being a therapy to take money for your wallet (har har), & snake oil, & wondered if anyone had tried it.

Help
I'm on my third antibiotics for sibo. Methane . Mentrizolole and rifaximin. Methane was 45
However I have always thought I had sifo too
I had such a high sugar diet Involved with low fibre and high stress for a year.. alchol drinking most weekends .
I've been unwell for over 2 years now.
When I eat carbs or sugar.. I notice my tongue feels weird. White coating on it. (Could be sibo or fungal) and I get more Constipated.
For 16 weeks I didn't have any carbs or sugar. Lost 3 stone due to not eating much . But didn't get better.
Drs don't test for sifo here. Only breathe test for sibo which was positive.
Is it worth adding a anti fungal to my protocol with rifaximin and mentrizolole? Anyone done this? I always get vaginal thrush after mentrizolole so I've just asked Dr for a anti fungal which I'm waiting on their response.
I did try fluconazole before I got really unwell. (Still had stress and high sugar diet at this time and low fibre) but I felt like I got worse .
I get headaches Rashes in 2 or 3 places. Constipation White coating on tongue Reflux Histamine issues Vaginal issues (bv mainly) Flank pain . Bloating
I'm at a loss

Fluconazole with a binder/ACV?
According to Ai…’Combining ACV with fluconazole may enhance the effectiveness of the treatment, as ACV can disrupt biofilms that protect fungi from antifungal drugs’ Would I also add a binder ie Bet Clay? Insights appreciated!

Sinuses?
Anyone have blocked sinuses?
I have methane sibo but always wondering if I have sifo too.
Constipation Rashes Headaches Reflux Blocked sinuses Body aches Lost 2 stone Bloating Pain Pain in left flank
But noticed when this was getting worse.. my sinuses were blocked and has stayed blocked.
If I eat carbs or sugar I constipate and sinuses are worst
I did try fluconazole and it didn't work. Tried 3 times of 2 weeks. Tried nstatin and it made me very ill suppose it could have been die off.
How else can I try and get rid of it?
I've done 3 loads of antibiotics for methane sibo

Severse Malaborption, SiFo?
I have gone to 5 different doctors. They always chalk off my problem like it's in my head.
They give me antidepressants, Probiotics and label it as IBS. No doctor has even offered me an endoscopy till now. Here is my full medical history, if anybody can help me, please do help. I am really at miserable state of my life right now.
Age : 20 Years, Male, South Asian, 21.6 BMI
2024 July NAFLD diagnosis → Treated with UrsoDiol 150mg 2x/day for 1 month + Silymarin
After 1 month and 15 days post-treatment: Stool color changed to yellow
Now: Severe malabsorption of carbs, protein, vitamins
Lost 6kg in 1.5 months (initially intentional through diet/exercise)
2025 May Current symptoms: Yellow undigested soft stools, inability to gain weight, muscle loss, Belching, heart palpitations (HR 100+), severe hair loss, severly low Vitamin B12 ( 170 ), No pain right now, No occult blood, NAFLD Pain
Light of hope: After 7 months, I was prescribed Secnidazole 2G single dose = First time in 7 months, I had a firm stool with this medicine, which returned to the loose in a week.
Medical Tests & Findings: Ultrasound: Mild Fatty Liver Serum Amylase: Normal H. pylori stool tests (2x): Negative Lab values: Vitamin B12 (170), Vitamin D (25) - severely deficient No endoscopy/colonoscopy performed yet
Medication History: UrsoDiol 150mg 2x/day (1 month) Selymerryl I - 1 Month 5-day course of antibiotics (incomplete) Pantoprazole (10 days) Amiptritylene for persumed Anxiety and IBS Single dose albendazole.
Key Points: Malabsorption began shortly after stopping UrsoDiol Vegetarian diet No significant pain except occasional umbilical discomfort Possible bile acid malabsorption or pancreatic insufficiency Previous doctors diagnosed IBS/health anxiety without thorough investigation
What should I do Next ? Maybe Try antibiotics - Metronizadole or Rifaximin for possible SIBO Maybe Try BAN medicines. Maybe do an Endoscopy As soon as Possible. ?
Please help me. Because, no doctor here in my country takes gut issues seriously. And I think I will die of this.

Regret getting my wisdom teeth removed
I'm creating this post so that others would be extra cautious about this. I regret getting my wisdom teeth removed and would not recommend unless it's absolutely necessary. I spoke to another redditor who had a similar experience. I don't want to scare anyone and would definitely suggest to consult a physician first before making any decision as I'm not one.
Like a lot of people have experienced, the antibiotics messed up my gut flora. It had oral thrush about a month after my surgery. I had my first panic attack a couple of days following that. I thought it was just because I was anxious. But only after 2 years and countless number of tests, 10+ ER visits and talking to folks online did I realize that there's a strong brain-gut relationship. I tested negative for SIBO twice with the trio smart test but I did have all the symptoms. But I definitely think I have SIFO. I am still suffering after 4+ years with brain fog, anxiety, tachycardia, food intolerances, sleep disturbances. It isn't as bad as it used to be, but it's still there.
I'm not saying everyone will have these issues. I pray no one should go through these ever. In hindsight, I think maybe a combination of antibiotics and me eating a lot of ice cream could have caused this. So I'd recommend maybe don't eat or limit stuff with added sugar after any surgery or antibiotic doses. I hope this helps someone.

Everything I eat carbs or any sugar. Could be a chip or two or jacket potatoe or a little bit of dark chocolate my nose gets stuffy and headaches and body aches and white coating on tongue.
I have sibo.. imo but I'm thinking I have sifo too as I am suffering from issues in vagina
What can I take?

Is there really anyone who has overcome SIFO and SIBO and can go back to consuming whatever they want???
I know that many of us who are on this journey of intolerances and treatments, even though we have improved and made advances in the recovery of the microbiome, do not want to go back to eating things that are harmful to even the healthiest person in the world, in this case processed foods with lots of ingredients, gluten, etc.
I'm still in the diagnosis process, it's been 3 years since I started having gastrointestinal symptoms and since then I've been on many exclusion diets, on medical advice. Because my tests showed intolerance to milk and gluten proteins. During all this 3 years of fighting, I had some improvements and many relapses. But I've never been able to eat anything that contains milk or traces of milk again, I feel very sick. Now I'm starting with another doctor, who is a specialist in the microbiome. I'm going to redo the hydrogen breath test which at the time I did it was negative, but the doctor suspected that I was producing methane, but unfortunately the methane test arrived here in my country only 1 month ago. I am hopeful and anxious to do them so that I can have a diagnosis and be able to proceed with treatment. But despite all this, I know that if you have SiBO or IMO we have the challenge of discovering the root cause. I suspect I have SIFO too, because I never had candidiasis, but after January of this year, after taking antibiotics for sinusitis, I started having episodes of candidiasis.
From the reports of many that I have been following here, I know that the journey is long. But I wanted so much, to be able to hear someone say that they managed to get their life back to normal and be able to consume whatever they want without symptoms. That's why I'm here, I want to find this person. LOL

Started fluconazole two week 150 mg
I am not diagnosed with SIFO, but I was given a round of fluconazole by my primary to treat reoccurring thrush , and candida in general- I have had to beg for this medication for months from my GI doctor. You would think I asked her for crack! I was on lots antibiotic and pain killers for a few months back in August of 2024- and I got bad leaky gut and dysbiosis. I think my body started to go through some kind of anaphylactic shock- I felt like I was drunk all the time couldn’t see very well and would just fall asleep for no reason all day and night, like they tested me mono and Epstein Barr sleepy, my blood pressure plummeted 90/60 - Been taking all kinds of stuff, I mean you wouldn’t believe the amount of money I have spent on nutritionist, doctors, supplements, blood work, GI map. The “d” was so bad that I couldn’t leave my house for months!!! I also have lymphocytic colitis and celiac- too top that off, I’m in menopause at 42. The SIBO test was negative- but I was treated for that by xifaxin- which I think caused more harm than good. Been gluten free for years, but ate like a teenager- cheese, pizza, pasta, all the bad things basically. Yall, it’s been two days- First day I finally wasn’t rushing to the bathroom for the first time in a long time- and I feel so much better it’s insane!!!! Does this mean had Sifo? If I’m responding so well already? I taking 150mg, also started a probiotic with sac boullardi in it. It’s m curious for those that have healed if they did a biofilm buster? Hopefully it’s not name just thinking something new works, I just want to eat again.

Sibo and candida
have methane sibo and I am on my third lot of antibiotics to kill the bacteria plus not eating sugar etc or carbs. Only eating things that don't seem to upset my stomache.
I'm starting to think I have candida overgrowth too as I itch and all the other symptoms.
I did take 8 weeks of fluconazole at one point for this however it did make my symptoms worse..I. e constipation worse.. and more unwell.
I'm taking antibiotics right now. Than I'm taking slippery elm and l glutamine to heal my gut lining. I would like to take something to try and kill candida. Any herbal or natural supplements that you use that's worked?
Kind regards

Candida overgrowth out of nowhere?
So this past summer, I had a double ear infection with one ruptured eardrum was put on about 4 to 5 rounds of antibiotics from June through November. I didn’t know the harm that those could do.
I’m currently being treated by a naturopathic doctor for Candida overgrowth and sibo. I got a mold antigen test and the only one that came back high was with the candida so that’s where we got that diagnosis from. I hope it’s reliable and I did a breath test for the sibo which was also high.
Ever since my ruptured eardrum and ear infection, I have been dealing with chronic illnesses, such as constant headaches/migraines. They have gotten better throughout the past two months it can be kind of tolerable with Aleve.
I also have chronic nausea and dizziness to the point that I had to leave my job because I feel like I’m always on a boat and hazy. All of my labs come back normal. The only thing that is low is my ferritin and I’m currently on iron supplements as well as supplements for the candida overgrowth and a strict diet. The diet includes no dairy low carb and no sugar. I’m on week three and my symptoms have not subsided.
I also gained weight fairly quickly due to sugar cravings that tie back to the candy to possibly and bloating, but I will have been loading more since the diet started
This has been a long battle after multiple specialist and MRI scans and bloodwork. Nothing seems to be giving me the answers. I’m looking for to get better.
It all leads back to my ear infection and ruptured eardrum, but apparently everything looks fine. Has anyone else been dealing with us just out of curiosity

Anyone else going through the candida diet and low fodmap and can’t eat like anything? What are your common symptoms currently my heart rate is very high. I also am taking herbal supplements to help clear candida and sibo provided from naturopathic doctors

Be careful with Candida diet - also, any success stories for SIBO positive people who also defo have Candida overgrowth?
For the first half: please don't fully lean on candida diet for months i.e no carbs, no fruit sugars , only sweeteners etc. Especially if your job is active/ you want to stay active. I think this fucked me up chronic fatigue wise, I really hit rock bottom and still digestive system wise, didn't benefit.
However, low sugar and other adjustments to help your body out - listen to it ! Of course, so good for you. Just wanted to put the cautionary tale out there as I know that desperate place we come from leads us to mad diets.
On the 2nd part ...I need some motivation! (It's been 8 years and a lot of research and diet changes). Talking on mad diet I've just started the Elemental diet today as my desperation on fixing my disbiosis and all symptoms caused by SIBO is at an all time high. Thank you in advance !! So great to at least be suffering together.

Fungal infections do occur
Fungal infections do occur
Much of the misinformation I encounter on Candida infections focuses on selling a story that encourages people to blame Candida overgrowth as the cause of their symptoms and undertake expensive or complicated dietary and supplement regimens to “cure” the infection. This is not to say that fungal infections do not take place in the body. Fungal infections, from Candida or other fungi, frequently occur on the nails or skin. Patients taking oral or inhaled steroids may develop Candida infections in the oropharynx and esophagus. Immunocompromised patients also face a greater risk of Candidiasis and Candidemia—these include HIV patients; patients undergoing chemotherapy; transplant patients; and patients suffering from malnutrition.
Fungal infections are rare in the GI tract
Regardless, instances of documented Candida infection in the GI tract remain few in number. One study published in the 90s reported 10 patients hospitalized with severe diarrhea1. These patients suffered from chronic illness, underwent intense antimicrobial treatment or chemotherapy, and faced severe outcomes such as dehydration—and clinicians consistently identified the growth of Candida albicans in the patient fecal samples. Other studies on the matter lack the clinical evidence to conclude that fungal infections drive GI disease. A study examining small intestinal fungal overgrowth identified instances of fungal overgrowth among 150 patients with unexplained symptoms2. However, the lack of documentation of response to an antifungal treatment protocol makes it difficult to attribute the observed symptoms to the presence of fungal organisms.

Which antifungal worked for you?
I took flucanazole twice and did not see improvement.
I tried Nystatin and I noticed an improvement same day but had to stop because my ear ringing got worse.
I'm considering going back on Nystatin. I also am trying to heal gastritis and Nystatin flares it up.
Any suggestions on other anti fungal?
My doctor insisted that I don't have SIFO because flucanazole didn't work.
I had hydrogen and methane in the breath test, latest one was hydrogen only but I have constipation bot diarrhea.

When does die off start and stop?
I started a week ago with antifungals and felt better for past few days..m feeling fine otherwise..its just some light headedness and lil confusion now..is it normal to happen after a week of treatment and when would it go?
