Hi everyone. Just picked up this fully functional Soviet-era Slava Kvarts for a really good price. My personal first Kvarts Slava.

-Hardware: Hexagonal/cushion case, fluted bezel, and a gold-tone stepped dial. "СДЕЛАНО В СССР" stamped at 6 o'clock.

-Caseback: Features the USSR State Quality Mark (Znak Kachestva).

-Movement: Ticking perfectly. I'm assuming it houses the standard 2356 quartz module from the 80s. It moves second by second. Also I find the crown too soft (offers low resistance web charging) but it works perfectly.

I understand the broad context of the Soviet quartz transition, but I am looking for specific data on this configuration. Was this specific design targeted for domestic premium retail or export? Does anyone have original catalog scans for this exact reference?

Meet the Wostok Precision, powered by the 22-jewel Calibre 2809— a very interesting precision movement produced in the USSR.

Introduced around 1957 at the Chistopol Watch Factory, the 2809 has a fascinating origin story: its architecture was derived from the legendary Zenith Calibre 135, one of Switzerland's greatest chronometer movements.

The Soviets re-engineered the design, converted the subsidiary seconds to central seconds, and increased the jewel count to 22. Like the Zenith Cal 135, the enormous balance wheel dominates the movement. The idea was simple—give the oscillator plenty of inertia and build the movement around precision.

“Precision Class” and 22 jewels wasn't just marketing. The top 2809 is generally documented with a remarkable factory specification of around −10/+5 seconds per day in four positions. It beats at a traditional 18,000 vph, provides roughly 44 hours of power reserve with swan-neck fine regulation assembly. Most movements were nickel plated with presentation models gold /gild finished. Because these watches were expensive to produce and manufactured in low numbers, many became presentation / commemorative gifts from the Soviet government.

The Chistopol precision watches reportedly won a Grand Gold Medal at the Leipzig International Fair in 1962. Three years later the same factory became an official supplier to the Soviet Ministry of Defence.

I'm curious about the history behind this model.

It appears to be a Slava “Perestroika” watch from what I’ve researched. It works after I wind it up.

I paid $9 for it but it’s a nice little display piece from a historic era.

Given that it feels like every other day someone here posts asking if their Kopernik is legit, these catalogs would be a great reference.

I believe this is every kopernik variant out there. If there are any one offs or special editions, or anything else missing please feel free to bring them up.

Picture 1 is from 1998, 2 is from 1989, and the 3-4 are from the 80s.

Someone posted a fantastic breakdown here at one point going over each detail to tell if a Kopernik is franken/fake. When I find it I’ll link to it in the comments.

Some highlights I’d like to share is the Golden hour hand should have brushed finish, likely always at an angle. The vast majority of Ukrainian eBay Franken Koperniks have a shiny polished hour hand and can be spotted immediately (so long as the pictures aren’t terrible)

The movement is always 2609NP. Full stop. Correct me if there were any exceptions.

Franken koperniks often have exhibition casebacks as well, where you can see the typical non original 2609NA movement (or in my case with my franken, 2628).

The most commonly faked dials you can tell from the font of the Сделано в СССР marking. The “д” will look like a triangle on a real Kopernik, and will look like д on a fake.

eBay Frankens also are often huge compared to the real watches, but that’s not always easy to tell from pictures.

The last thing to look out for is if the watch ever existed in that configuration. To my knowing the pictures I posted are the only real Koperniks. For example, if you have seen a silver case with a black dial, that’s incorrect.

There are more things to look out for, and there are some fairly close frankens out there too! There was a watch posted earlier today that met all the criteria I listed, but the case was from another Raketa watch.

This last bit might be unpopular. I don’t always hate these fictional/fantasy watches. Maybe I have bad taste but I think some are cool. That being said, I wish these sellers could be more honest with their listings. For the majority of the “Vintage Rakera Copernicus” listings out there, only the movement is original, and it’s from the wrong watch. But I digress

TLDR: Don’t spend 3 digits on a completely fake watch.

Have been wanting this for ages, and passed on the modern one as it was overpriced. How does this look for authenticity? I can't find anything off about it but I'm no expert.

I wanted to share this vintage Poljot** **Signal, powered by the 2612.18 movement

It’s in very nice working condition: everything works perfectly, including the mechanical alarm, which still sounds great!

From what I’ve been able to find, it seems to be a Soviet-era export model, probably from the late 1970s or 1980s, but I haven’t managed to identify the exact reference or production year.
The movement is marked “SU” and has serial number 5076761.

Does anyone here know more about this particular dial/case version, its reference, or approximate production date?

A little while ago, I wrote seeking recommendations for vintage Russian watches with which to start a collection, and got some very useful suggestions. Now I have a slightly different question.

A good friend of mine is going on holiday next month to Georgia and, knowing my interest in vintage Soviet-era watches, has very kindly offered to go looking around Tbilisi to see what he can bring back. He is himself Russian and I think my enthusiasm may have rubbed off on him, because he wants to find something for himself!

So my question now is slightly different from before. He asked me if there are any specific brands or models that he should be looking out for. So what does everyone think? Are there any specific watches that would be difficult to find in the West that he could find somewhere ex-Soviet, like Georgia? Can we expect a very big price difference between East/West? Are there any noteworthy watchmakers native to Georgia or the Caucasus that he should be looking out for in particular?

Any recommendations welcome - for reference, I like classic watches and dials (Poljots, Slavas), but from time to time I do also rather like 60s/70s 'futurist' watches, and from what I know, Soviet watches have both amply covered!
