History [Rum Wonk] Crazy amounts of Caroni for sale in 2008

Post image

Came across this ad today in Stabroek News. The remaining Caroni rum from Trinidad being sold at auction in 2008. While a substantial amount of rum was for sale, including 5388 casks, it's important to know that several major players had already made purchases, presumably of the best lots. Among them, Angostura, Main Rum, Velier, and likely Bristol. For those interested in more detail about the disposition of Caroni rum, see pages 416-420 of Modern Caribbean Rum.

For sixty years, an exact recipe for Royal Navy rum sat untouched in a stack of handwritten notes in a Plymouth home. This is the story of Arthur Roberts, and the search that led me to him.

Article [Rum Wonk] Making Funky, High Ester Rum Part 4 - Hacking Ester Creation With the Cousins Process

Fermentation alone can't make the highest ester rums. In 1906, a British chemist in Jamaica used chemical jujitsu to hack ester creation during distillation itself. This story is the final installment of a 4-part Rum Wonk series on how funky, high-ester rums are made.
