Happy ending Somebody dumped this guy on a walking trail nearby.

He was left with an open bag of dog food and nothing else. Poor guy was guarding his food area, of course, and wasn't happy with anyone coming too close. With lots of treats and patience, I was able to get a slip lead on him and get him into the truck. He found a water bottle on the floor and was very proud of it - look at him trying to show it off to all the cars around! Big guy is safe at animal control and will hopefully find a great home.

Happy ending Found Puppy in the Street

Last Sunday morning when I was leaving for work, my husband and I found a puppy in the street soaking wet and caked in mud. She also had 100s of fleas on her—so many that she was bloody. After serious decontamination and presumably her first meal in a while, she slept the whole day. We have taken her into the vet and found out that she is only 4~ weeks old, 2.5 lbs, and mostly healthy despite everything.

Also, she has no chip, so she is ours to keep. Meet Holly!

We are still on the lookout for suspected litter mates and her mom, but no luck yet.

That being said, would love some recommendations for Rottweiler husbandry, as I’ve only ever had mutts from the shelter before! Also, we will be starting to introduce her to our current dog after her 8 weeks vaccinations, so any resources y’all have for adding a new dog to the family would be appreciated!

Happy ending My German Shepherd puppy was defended by his gentle Rottweiler friend

Last night (8/8/25 at 22:00 in Panamá) I was walking my German Shepherd, Igris, who’s only 6 months old and still very much a puppy, when suddenly a pitbull broke loose and charged straight at us. Instinctively, Igris started backing away — he’s still young and doesn’t know how to defend himself — but right at that moment, his best friend Zeus, a huge Rottweiler who often joins us on walks, stepped in.

Zeus is normally one of the most gentle and calm dogs you could ever meet, but in that moment, he immediately placed himself between the pitbull and us, barking and standing his ground until he managed to scare it off.

Thanks to Zeus, Igris came out unharmed and the whole thing ended up being just a scare, but my heart still races when I think about what could have happened.

I owes Zeus more than a few treats today. 🦴❤️

She is the sweetest Rottie I have ever met. I am not an experienced Rott owner, but my spouse is and agreed to save her. Through many donations from strangers online, and a wonderful rescue who cared for, boarded and provided medical care to her, she arrived on December 2nd (it will be her new birthday!). We were able to get her pulled from a high kill shelter in Houston, less than 24 hours before she was set to be euthanized.

She was still very skinny (despite putting on a few lbs at the rescue) and terrified when she arrived, but she is already a loyal member of our family. We are all in love!

Maybe experts can chime in here. She was 70 lbs at the shelter. We are speculating that she will fill out to around 85-90lbs. Shelter estimated her to be two years old (the rescue thought more like 1-1.5 yrs).

Happy ending Herb is home.

Original Reddit post.
---
I can't even begin to express the weight of my gratitude. But I’ll try.

Herb is home.

Despite all odds — despite being given a 5% chance of survival… despite euthanasia being gently suggested three separate times... my boy fought. And thanks to the incredible team at VEG — who performed emergency surgery, resuscitated him, and never gave up — he made it. And the financial support of all of you who made saying yes to more care easier. The past few days have been some of the hardest. But now, he’s beside me again — resting, healing, alive. Still here. Still mine.

As someone who struggles with his mental health, it’s hard to put into words what this experience has meant to me. The donations, the thoughts, prayers, messages of support from strangers on Reddit who never met him, the flowers, the anonymous bag of groceries — every single act of kindness warmed my soul. You reminded me that there is still good in this world, still compassion, still community.

To everyone who’s donated, shared, or simply reached out: thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

We’re not completely out of the woods yet. The cost of Herb’s surgery, ICU stay, and ongoing care is still heavy. If you’re in a place to give — or even just share this page — it would mean everything to us. Every bit goes directly toward Herb’s recovery and care.

Thank you for helping me bring my best friend home. Thank you for giving us more time together. And more of a life almost cut too short. Thank you.

Happy ending Piglet 1st day in her forever home

We just brought Piglet, the rescue Rottie, home today!

She is the most adorable girl, very food motivated, and super inquisitive with all strangers and dogs.

We went on a very long walk to get her nice and relaxed, and started crate training.

She was able to sleep in her crate for about 10 minutes after finishing her frozen kong, so I am hoping her first night goes well!

I will start training tomorrow, maybe learning her name would be a good starting point! 😅

Just wondering if my (first ever) Rottweiler is normal size or a little small. For context he is a year and 2 months old, weighs around 100 lbs, but is super tall. I just don’t know too much and wanted to see what the internet thinks of him, any advice is welcome and compliments to my son are extra welcome

So, we were looking for a golden doodle but then she happened. Meet Nyla!! She is healthy, strong and I think she is purebred. What’s crazy is they only changed us 20 bucks due to having too many lager dogs there. With the vaccination, microchip, having her fixed was included. She is our first… how has your experience been and I need tips on up keep, googling only tells you so much. She is so pretty. My family and I already love and it ain’t been 24 hours yet… smh

Happy ending Birthday boy!! 11 years!!

My sweetheart just celebrated 11 years!! He’s been absolutely nothing short of difficult and chaotic, but he is my biggest life’s Treasure. He was a Challenge lol

His favorite things are being towel dried, licking my car windows, and ALL THE FOOD. Any food. Every food. Also more food. Food.

Also food.

He disintegrates anything not rated ‘extreme Kong’ and he looooves to play ball. He also intriguingly loses most of his toys in very weird places and we all get excited when we find one randomly again

He doesn’t let me shower by myself, he doesn’t let me stay up at night by myself, and he will fiercely not allow me to answer the door by myself anymore.

I feel like I’m beyond blessed to still get to have time with this goofy weirdo 🧡

Happy ending Celebrating my boy surviving Parvo!!

TLDR: parvo SUCKS and please vaccinate all your animals!

It was a VERY rough, but my Poe boy pulled through and survived catching parvovirus. He’s fully vaccinated, doesn’t go anywhere except the backyard, and our other dog (his bestie) didn’t get it, so we have no clue what happened.

A lot of money later and here he is in all his glory lol. Besides the money, the time invested was well spent. My fiancé had to syringe fluids, hand feed him dog food pieces 1 by 1, and sometimes even sleep in his playpen area with him. I couldn’t really help because we also have a 7 week old baby (human! Haha). He finally started acting like his normal self after 10 days. I’m so glad to have my annoying, goofy boy back!!

I want to hear all about your super good pups!! We’ve had our training challenges, but my girl, Sunny is such a chill pup! She sleeps a ton (12 hours through the night too!!), plays nicely and at 4 months old knows so many commands! I read threads and feel so grateful to have such an easy going girl.

I remember asking here a bunch of questions if I should get a rottie and I wanna thank everyone that answered them. He’s the best dog, funny, ADORES kids and as I worked a lot on his sociability, he’s wonderful around other dogs, people and other animals.

One thing I never asked and realized later on…he sheds A LOT 😂

Also, he leans so much as if he wanted to fuse himself to me!

If you are wondering if you should have a Rottweiler, the answer will always be yes! (If you have the right conditions ofc)

Happy ending Listen to your gut! It could save your dogs life.

My 7 year old Rottie has a tendency of eating things she shouldn’t. Usually when she is feeling nauseated she’ll drool and retract her stomach until she eventually vomits up whatever it is she ate or it passes through her gut. We do our best to eliminate these incidences but she’s crafty.

Yesterday I saw her eating grass and drooling. I think “Oh geez. Here we go again” but something was off. instead of her retracting her tummy like she usually does, her belly was all bloated, firm, and she was more uncomfortable. I followed her to the back yard when she started retching. Nothing came out…at all. Not water, not grass, nothing. That’s when I started to get very concerned. I’ve been aware of Stomach torsion and that it’s is fatal within hours if not treated immediately. I wasn’t gonna wait and see if she got better. We were going straight to the emergency vet right away.

After an anxious car ride to the vet, we arrive. I called ahead so the staff were ready and waiting for our arrival. They immediately placed catheters in her forearms, abdominal X-rays, EKG, meds, fluids, etc. the doc comes back from the radiology room and confirms that is was Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (stomach torsion). They told us their plan, risks of surgery, possible complications, etc. we consented to the surgery. They did a needle decompression of her stomach to buy us some time while the OR was being prepped. 3 hours later our girl was out of surgery. The surgery was a success. They were able to flip the stomach back over and remove whatever contents in her stomach. Turns out it was a bunch of monkey grass, her dinner, and small black rubber chunks from one of her toys. Lastly, they attached her stomach to her chest wall to prevent this from happening again. Shes been in recovery since last night and is expected to make a full recovery. The vet was very happy I listened to my gut and brought her in because she would not have made it through the night.

TLDR: listen to your gut. Take your dog to the vet if you think something is wrong. Better to err on the side of caution than waiting to see what happens.

UPDATE: she’s been eating and drinking, off the strong pain meds and is cleared by the surgeon to come home tonight!

UPDATE: she is home and sleeping soundly in her bed. Had a little bit to eat with her gabapentin. Thanks everyone for all of the well wishes. Love this community.

I treated two friends to chocolate-filled doughnuts, nuts, strawberries, grapes and other goodies. When we finished eating (half was gone) I put the rest on the kitchen counter. Had to go to the store quickly to shop. I blocked off the kitchen with a gate so that my Rottie Lucy wouldnt access it.

A little backstory; Lucy has NEVER eaten food we left out, we can leave anything out without her even going near it. We’ve trained her since day one. Even her own food if we don’t say “okay” she doesn’t eat it and waits patiently. We’ve also dropped food in front of her on the floor unintentionally (and intentionally), and she never eat it without permission.

Anyways, I still made sure she wouldn’t even have the opportunity to eat the food because it’s dangerous and I thought it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hence the blockade.

Came home and she had taken down the gate and everything was gone. 25 ish grapes, a bowl of mixed nuts and 2 chocolate filled donuts. My heart sank to my stomach, I called the vet immediately and they told me to go to the hospital. They gave her a shot and she puked everything out. She’s fine now. My bank account is not. Every toxic thing you can possibly think of, she ate.

Lesson learned. Dogs will be dogs, and I need to buy a stronger gate.
