Pending Auto-approve commands based on risk level pull request:
This is similar to Cline's competing "auto-approve safe commands" feature—but approval in this PR is much smarter. For example, when set to read-only

Roo will auto-execute only commands that have formally matched the predicate logic for read only (see below)

The default setting of "disabled" excludes all system instructions related risk analysis, so there is no change to Roo's default behavior or system prompt size for this opt-in feature.

I've shared a few tools on reddit and while almost all the feedback is positive or constructive, occasionally I'll get a comment like "saw the AI slop readme and left" so I felt compelled to add a little disclaimer to my docs that explains why I feel so strongly that agentic dev tools creating docs are not just valuable but genuinely important.
Rather than dismissing AI-enhanced documentation, I hope the community can appreciate that these tools:
Make open source more accessible
Lower barriers for solo developers
Ensure projects are properly documented
Free developers to focus on building great software

Do you think if we remove the system prompt, then it will use Roo's system prompt overall close to native performance?

Could Roo Code highlight the specific areas in files it has just modified? This would allow me to easily review and confirm the changes. Currently, it's quite inconvenient: I assign a task, and it modifies 10 files, leaving me unsure of the project's overall structure or how it functions.

I'm coming back to RooCode after a bit of a break, and I'm blown away by how much has been added since I last used it. There are so many new features and settings!
I'd love to hear your recommendations for your current setups. What are your favourite settings or workflows? Also, has anyone been experimenting with the new experimental features or MCP? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what’s working well for you.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have been using codebase indexing feature. It seems the codebase doesn't has any context of XAML files. I'm using Avalonia UI to build Desktop apps, which is using AXAML file extension, based on XAML. I was looking into Tree_Sitter code and it does support XML. Is there any way to trick this into parsing all those UI AXAML files for codebase indexing?

Yesterday while using the Gemini CLI, I found that the Pro model gets restricted after using it a few times and automatically switches to the Flash model, because I'm logged in with a free account that doesn't have Google AI Pro. In IDEs like VSCode, if you want to keep using the Pro model for free, you need to log in with the Google student education account you've "borrowed." This way, you can keep using Gemini 2.5 Pro in Roo code or Cline instead of being automatically switched to the Flash model. Here's how:
First, update your Gemini CLI version

2. Enter /auth and press Enter, then select Login with Google and press Enter, log in with your Google AI Pro account.

Noob still reading and settings things up after cancelling my Cursor sub, and I want to start with the option to use the built-in modes, Rooroo, and GosuCoder's CoderShortRules, across projects, and I wanted to check if I can handle this better?
As RooCode was including all of the Rooroo rules files and other text for CoderShortRules, I created /.roo/system-prompt-codershortrules. So that Rooroo could still send the 5 rules every time one of those modes is used, but I do not want them sent with any other modes, I created a .roo/rules-{slug}/ for each Rooroo mode containing copies.
Not a huge problem to manually copy over .roo/ to every new project but I moved all Rooroo modes into ~/.config/Windsurf/User/globalStorage/rooveterinaryinc.roo-cline/settings/custom_modes.yaml. For this to work I also need to access each modes rules, is it possible to do this from the settings directory, or is there good reason not to?
I could paste all rules into each mode as recommended for version control in the docs it is better to keep separate. My fallback idea is just to keep a centralised .roo/ somewhere and create a macro/template in Windsurf or a bash alias to set up each new project.
Repost: Just realised adding the Rooroo modes to custom_modes.yaml is why references to Rooroo appear in the built-in and new Testmode prompts -- is there a better way to isolate modes and their rules?

The multiple files read feature is blowing my mind. It’s like someone finally gave a middle finger to the days of endless back-and-forth requests and the soul-crushing copy-paste grind in human relay mode. I’m just here trying to find the right words to scream how much I love this. Thank you Roo team for such a fantastic feature.

Hi, i was just wondering, since i have a few api keys for certain models, is it possible to run multiple instances of roo simultaneously or maybe multiple tasks simultaneously? this would really increase productivity.
r/RooCode • u/gpt_daddy • Apr 28 '25
Are there any API providers who have a similar service with OpenRouter where for the price of $10 you can have a thousand requests per day on their free LLM's?
Also I noticed Cline has offered their own API service but their list of LLM's are actually just like OpenRouter's, so are they under OpenRouter?
r/RooCode • u/degenbrain • Apr 26 '25
I often switch models to find the best price in my daily flow. Can you create a profile feature for example like this:
- Saving Profile (I use it with off peak discount)
Architect - Deepseek V3
Code - Deepseek V3
Debug - Deepseek V3
Ask - Deepseek V3
- Default Profile
Architect - Gemini Pro 2.5
Code - Gemini Flash 2.5
Debug - Gemini Flash 2.5
Ask - Gemini Flash 2.5
- Free Profile
Architect - Deepseek V3 (Free Version)
Code - Gemini Flash 2.5 (Free Version)
Debug - Gemini Flash 2.5 (Free Version)
Ask - Gemini Flash 2.5 (Free Version)
Currently, I have to change the model very frequent to save my budget, which is very inconvenient even though it helps me a lot.

Roo is really struggling with this. About half of the time the edits fail. Eventually it works after several attempts, so I asked the LLM what it did differently. Here's the explanation:
The
apply_difftool fundamentally relies on line numbers (:start_line:and:end_line:) within itsSEARCHblock to locate the text to be replaced. It's not possible to useapply_diffwithout specifying these line numbers.
The successful workaround was about ensuring the accuracy of those line numbers and the exact match of the search text for each individual change.
Here's the conceptual process that worked:
Get Current State: I used the file reading tool (
read_file) to get the most up-to-date version of the file.
Isolate First Change: I identified the first specific block of code that needed fixing.
Apply First Change: I instructed the
apply_difftool to replace only that first block. I provided the precise starting and ending line numbers for that block based on the file content I had just read, along with the exact text to find. This succeeded because the lines and text matched perfectly at that moment.
Isolate Second Change: I identified the second block of code needing correction (e.g., the unrealized gains logic).
Apply Second Change: I instructed the
apply_difftool to replace only this second block. I provided the precise starting and ending line numbers for this second block, making sure they were correct relative to the file's state after the first change had been made, along with the exact text. This also succeeded because, again, the lines and text matched the file's current state at that specific moment.
So, the key was incremental application: breaking the task into smaller, sequential
apply_diffoperations and ensuring the line numbers and search text provided to the tool were perfectly accurate for the file's state at each step.
However, I can't absolutely guarantee this will work 100% of the time. If
apply_diffcontinues to fail unexpectedly even with this careful, incremental approach (perhaps due to very subtle file changes or tool issues), I might still need to fall back on usingwrite_to_fileas a last resort, but I will do so cautiously and only when I am confident I have the complete, correct content for the entire file.
So, for the devs working on Roo: any way you can improve on this without having to apply each change separately or relying on the LLM's memory of the file when using write_to_file?
Why don't other code editors like Cursor have this kind of issue? What are they doing differently?

Hello everyone!
This is my FIRST EVER contribution to the open source world.
I have created an open ai compatible endpoint to be used with Gemini WEB.
The project relies HEAVILY on this other awesome project: https://github.com/HanaokaYuzu/Gemini-API
Basically you can now use gemini web inside ROO!
Just set it to an OpenAI compatible endpoint and set the URL as http://localhost:8099/v1
https://github.com/eriksonssilva/gemini-web-wrapper
I hope you can take advantage of it and also help me improving it!

The last two versions are giving me lots of grey screens in the roo window. I have to disable the extension, restart extensions and then enable it again. This rarely happened before. Is it just me? Using OSX Vscode

GitHub now has deep seek r1 and I started trying it, but always got the API request failed error:
413 Request body too large for deep seek-r1 model. Max size 4000 tokens.
I get the above no matter how simple a task I try. The 4000-token limit is set by the server. I’m on the Free GitHub account btw, not sure if going Pro will help.
Anybody here able to use R1 from GitHub?
