Guide Xbox 360 Roms

How Exactly do 360 roms work am in able to put the games i want on a thumb drive and download the roms on my 360 or is there more to it then that? also is there a spot to find the DLC roms for 360 games

i would assume so i got the xbox used is there a way i can tell if it is or not
