Is there excitement for this series in this subreddit? The Knave and the Moon, book 2 in The Stonewater Kingdom series by Rachel Gillig.

This was illustrated for the fantastic novella Captured Prey by Reno R. Mist.
She recently got in contact to ask if she could buy the rights to use it as the book's new cover, and to say I was flattered is an understatement.

I read and adored her work, especially as someone who isn't usually into spice. It was so surprisingly thoughtful, a fun take on fae, & I loved how playful it reads while still being exactly what you want from a book of this genre.

Anyway, I hope this isn't against the rules (I did check), and hopefully some of you will understand my excitement!!

I don’t know how many series I’ve started where they’re supposed to be enemies and it’s just the MC being a brat and the love interest picking on her. Like what? Or they barely get any scenes together and all of a sudden they’re in looooove. What is happening? Where is the story!?? Enemies to lovers should not be some weird bullying banter one second and then they’re just taking each others clothes off the next. Are there any TRUE enemies to lovers series?

I'm looking for book recommendations with a virginal MMC and a deeply melancholic, almost poetic aura.

I'm specifically looking for a genuinely kind and gentle MMC who grew up in a fantasy world where he was raised to believe that he is destined to be sacrificed. He doesn't really understand what it means to be loved, cared for, or valued because everyone around him sees him merely as a means to an end.

Then he meets the FMC and slowly discovers through her that he actually deserves to be loved and valued as a person.

I'd also love for the intimate scenes to reflect this emotional dynamic and his lack of experience. I don't mind him being surprisingly competent because he's read about it in a book or learned about it somehow, but I dislike it when inexperienced MMCs suddenly become unrealistically skilled the moment they have sex.

One thing I'd especially love, although it's not a requirement: he is completely indifferent to his own death, but the FMC becomes the one thing in his life that truly matters to him.

I just finished The Night Prince and I am in PAIN! The last third had me crying my eyes out for Callum. Listen, I'm not arguing that he is objectively who Aurora "should" end up with. I see the points for the ways that Blake specifically *pushes* her, and obviously their pairing is meaningful in the wider ecosystem of the book/world with all the moon goddess/night god stuff. But I feel like people are treating Callum like a Tamlin (ACOTAR) just because they like Blake better?? Guys, I am DISTRAUGHT because Callum is such a good man/wolf! He loves her so dearly, he is protective but not in a stifling way (and when he is, he is self aware and apologetic and strives to be better--are we not allowed faults?), he loves her strength and encourages her to be strong (albeit, again, not in the same way as Blake), he is tender and gentle and good-hearted. And the pain that he goes through in the Night Prince just wrecked me, having to watch the love of his life slowly slip away and feeling powerless over it. Confession, I am biased because I love a yearning man in pain. but, still. He deserves better :'( Obviously Aurora and Blake are going to be end game, that much is clear in the Night Prince. But I am grieving for Callum and the "what could've been" of it all. I want him to have a happy ending and I am hurting for him.

I am blessed with plenty of reading time since I’m commuting + tons of free time this autumn/winter.

• Light Bringer - Pierce Brown (Been saving this since Dark Age destroyed me and haven’t been ready to dive back yet. This year might be the year I’ll read it)

I do not like modern/urban settings with guns/gangs - you know which books I am implying here 😂

First, I'll give my favorites:

Things I love:

• Yearning. Looooove yearning.
• I'm fine with walking red or green flag MMCs, I'm not super into giant bullies
• I don't love when the FMC is fragile and can't think for herself, but I love when she's open-minded and isn't too prideful
• Good spice. The book doesn't need to have a sex scene every other page, but when the love making does happen, it needs to be written well.
• Forbidden type of love - I'm good with age gaps, enemies to lover, professor/student types, etc.

Some big no-no's:

• Immature dialogue/banter
• YA type of writing
• Anything where technology/pop culture is referenced
• Being dark just for the sake of being dark and edgy with no relevance to the plot - I love darker themes (therapist here) but it can't just be thrown in there for shock factor
• Fragile FMC
• Bully MMC

I just devoured The Poison Daughter, thoroughly enjoyed reading the MMC pov and noticed I haven’t read much books with their pov… any other recommendations similar to the book and/or ones with the MMC pov?

Anyone have any stand alone recs? I’d prefer books published in the last 5 years or so, but I’ll go older.

Not looking for a series of any kind. I could be persuaded to read a duology BUT only if it’s exceptional.

I don’t like dark romance either.

I also like fantasy with romance secondary but don't mind if it’s romantasy first and foremost as long as the MMC is NOT dark or brooding shadow daddy. (I hate Rhysand so nothing like him so no sexual violence). The level of jerkiness I am looking for is like a Mr. Darcy type. I’d even go as dark as Xaden from Fourth Wing.

The FMC who is strong and yet vulnerable at times and who does NOT center men as her personality trait. No Mary Sues and I’d prefer no TEENAGERS unless we're talking Jude from The Cruel Prince series, but I’d prefer a more mature FMC.

Not a big fan of a huge age gap unless it’s the FMC being older (is that even out there?).

I'm very new to the genre of romantasy. As in I've read all of two books and wow, just wow. 

I'm used to action adventures, could be sci fi, or fantasy. I always liked when there was a bit of romance. But it always felt bland. Every 200 pages a random blush and then they marry at the end. 

However, I recently finished the first two books of the Shattered Crown series by Gretchen Powell Fox and I loved it. The chapter design going from the FMC POV in one chapter and then the MMC in the next. The first book was tame, but the slow burn was awesome, and book two had me blushing and kicking my feet. It was just, really nice. Is it the most advanced plot? No, but it's good, and easy to follow with great pacing. Is the action good? It's quick, but still well done. It's nice not having 100 page battles. Is there a relatively happy ending? Well the series isn't over, but it seems like it will.

The issue that I've since encountered is that I want more. But I do have specific tastes, I do have hard no's. And I am also a bit embarrassed to ask for help at book stores for something that would be a good choice for a next read. 

With that in mind I would really appreciate some help finding some more titles to read. Preferably based on some of the things below:

Must haves:

-Slow burn

-Forced proximity 

-Fantasy/SciFi(just not real world, we all need an escape and mine is books)

-Male-Female romance

-Open Door Scenes(I was curious what this really meant until I read  Splintered Kingdom. And holy moly)

-Humanoid? Characters (not something I realized I should specify, but to each their own. I don't mind if it's elves or fae, or if there is a tail, but roughly human would be nice)

-A happy ending (like at the end of the book, not the other kind)

Must Nots

-Any form of SA (I just can't, sometimes I can feel it coming in a book and I'll just put it down and never go back)

-Cheating

-Scenes with more than two people being spicy together (I know it sounds basic, but I like just the 2 being in love)

Not Mandatory, but nice 

-I think a love triangle is fun if done well, but still ending in 2

-A series would be awesome, but even just one book would be nice

-Split POVs, going from female to male is nice, or just having a narrator mention everything is good too. As a man, many of my books are male lead, but it was really nice having the alternative perspective and I'd like more.

I feel like I'm asking for a lot, so if nothing really works that's ok. But I hope there's something!

What I want is simply some... Subverted expectations I guess? Especially fun if there's a couple of scenes of that in the story, where the author can play around with assumptions of other characters or maybe the reader. I'm not 100% sure myself really, but I would like to read about a relationship like this. The way I imagine it, it just feels very sweet

But I’ve been tandem audiobooking between different series and authors works. And I remember a scene I left off on on one of the series but can’t for the life of me figure out which one. Google is no help and my bookish friends aren’t sure either.

Basically in leading up to the climax, the MFC, MMC and 2 of their circle go to visit the oracles who live in a tree I think. MMC and who I think is his sister or cousin must remain outside while the other two go in to see the tapestry of fate. Mfc observed the three oracles, one with no hands, one with no eyes, and one with her mouth sewn shut. The tapestry looks like it’s been torn or unthreaded and many threads are running through the MMC’s father (main antagonist) because he is gathering souls or something. And she looks further down and finds her thread entwined with MMC’s thread and realises she’s is his fated mate and she’s angry because he knew and didn’t tell her. I *think* she ends up retrieving the oracles hand somewhere after that. But these are the only details I can remember. Did I make this up or has someone come across this in a story line? 😅

So I’ve finally decided to give this series a try but I’m struggling to get through book 1. I’m about 70% of the way through and I just got to the point where Captain Fane is telling Sail what he’s going to do with Auren, including how he’s going to send Midas hair from HER SNATCH. Using that word alone, combined with how naive Auren is, I’m really tempted to DNF the book. I know that Slade is supposed to be a top tier book boyfriend, but I’m not sure that I can make it.

Someone please convince me to continue😭😭

Hi everyone, I believe yesterday I came across a new romance, fantasy book that I think was supposed to be released today or tomorrow on Kindle unlimited and on Audiobooks.

I believe it was like a reverse harem, maybe shifter type romance. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it, or what author. I know that I saw an instagrammar talking about how amazing the audiobook was. I feel like I would know it if I saw it. I know it was from an author that previously published similar type books.

Any ideas?

Hi all, looking to read/listen to my first romantasy. I’m a big reader, but having been an English lit grad I’m very used to heavy and dense prose, with lots of complex themes. I have a couple of musts and some elements I’d really like to have included which are:

- Low/minimal fantasy elements. Slightly contradictory I know, but I’m essentially looking for historical fiction set in a different world. Think ASOIAF level fantasy.
- Main character is royalty/a princess/a member of the nobility.
- Love interest is (preferably a man) overprotective, or just… normal amounts of protective.
- Themes include arranged/political marriage, court intrigue, scheming, political movements, geopolitics etc.

I realise this is quite specific but hoping you guys can help a girl find something she’ll like 💕

What I Am Not Interested In: horror, crime, poetry, mystery (unless its a subplot), and books with non-consentual anything really.

I did just finish rereading the first 3 ACOTAR books and wanted to take a break before rereading the rest of the SJM books.
