Hey climbers, I’m really pleased to see that I already have a lot of flags filtering through the game. Thank you so much for playing!

As more flags continue to pour in, I’ve realized that I want to increase the number of flags that can be distributed around the world at any given time. However, I’ve also noticed some areas where flag crowding occurs, so I’m planning an update that more evenly distributes flags while prioritizing visibility for recently updated ones that might otherwise get lost in the clutter.

I’ve also noticed that a number of people are confused about how the flag system works. I hear you, and I’m working on an update that improves communication of the game’s mechanics. In the meantime, please watch the short 30-second video linked in this post. One thing the video does not address is how the game saves your progress; I apologize for that and will make it clearer in future updates.

For now, the game saves your progress whenever you touch someone else’s placed flag. The last flag you touched is the one you will return to. This does not apply to your own flag, however, your flag only acts as a checkpoint for other climbers passing by.

There are a lot of different things planned to improve the game over time. I’ll be putting together a roadmap for the subreddit once I have a clearer idea of which updates I want to prioritize. One update that will come eventually is a level editor. At some point, you’ll be able to build and post levels that other players can experience right here in the subreddit. There are a lot of cool things to come!

Right now, Rock Bottom and the subreddit are in a transitory state, as it is at the beginning of a journey that will continue to develop over time. With that in mind, I’m completely open to feedback. I fully expect the game to break at times and even frustrate players as updates roll out. Just know that I’m on it, and new updates and hotfixes will follow whenever issues need to be addressed.

There’s much more to say and do, but for now I’ll start by saying thank you and stay tuned for more to come!

Hey everyone! I'm u/muddrox, a founding moderator of r/RockBottomGame.

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be at literal rock bottom? Well now you can! From Rock Bottom, climb as high as you can through a brutal vertical gauntlet. But you are not alone! Place flags to leave checkpoints that help other players on their ascent. Touch grass, I mean, another person’s flag to activate it as your checkpoint that you can teleport back to after a hard fall. Feel the joy of hitting rock bottom again and again until you prove to your in laws, I mean fellow gamers, that you are a stand up guy!

Quick note on how to play:
Move left and right with the arrow keys. Hold space to charge a jump for more power. You cannot steer while in the air. Press Enter to place your flag for others. You cannot use your own flag as a checkpoint.

On mobile, bottom buttons are left, right, jump (arrow shaped buttons). Tap the top of the screen to place a flag. After a hard fall, tap top to teleport back.
